Has anyone else seen the PEANUTS comic book from Boom! ???
It is Schulz's strip ( With a Charles M. Schulz " name above the logo but no "...Schulz's " possessive in the official , incidia, title . , iwith newly-made-for-comic-books material , in a preview issue for $1 .
The Schulz family ( Did anyone here know that the Schulzs bought the strip outright from United a ways ago ??? ) had alrewady announcedPEANUTS " graphic novels " , which I'd looked at a litte of at the same LCS I got the CB at . Those consist of Schulz strip material " remixed/featurized " - fill-out and in-between material added plus colorization - for some feel sort of intended to be like the TV specials , I suse , especially since they gave the one I saw a' You're in Denial , Cahrlie Brown " Mendelz type of title .
I'm rather pleasantly suprised that the Schuzs , then , would BOTHER! with our " inbred fanboy ghetto " corner of Comicsland , letting a little golden fairy dust sweat drip upon us from the mighty temples of Snoopy..........I thought that I had seen a note , on the promotional poster for it that I saw at said LCS that alerted me to the comic's coming , not a word in either the " comics press " nor " mainstream entertainment press " did I see about it , I posted about it here to no response...But anyway , I thought I saw something that said Stephen Pastis - of pEARLS BEFFORE SWINE - would have some material in this issue . Maybe I was wrong .
Um , anyway . This preview ish is 24 pages (plus cover) as other Boom!s have been .
There are 17 pages of " true " comics material in here ,two comic-book stories and 4 pages of CLASSIC PEANUTS Sunday strips , presumably dating from some time other than the time the Sunday CP reprints date from - 3 definitely look Seventiesish or beyond - and printed in " flapjacks " format of sorts , 4 tiers , which I believe means that the last 1/3 of the top tier has been deleted...Presumably if they printed them have-to-turn-the-funnybook-sideways-sized , they could fit all of those Sundays in , in the " true " 3-tiers layout...........

...There is , also , the first 4 pages of the same GN I eyeballed at the LCS .
I do not consider " cut-you-off-after-a-few-pages " excerpting a new book to be anything else but promotional/ad material , peasant such material as it may be...
The two full-fleged comic-book stories consist of a story involvin Charlie Brown and Violet (!) , which I suppose may be somehow " mashed up " from/ a remake of an old strip story , perhaps with considerable new material...I believe that tended to be a tradition in comic-book versions of newspaper strips , newly drawn but rather remade/whatever from the original strips , comic-book stories . Someone is credited as the doer of the " Adaptation " after all . There is no logo for the oficial characters in the strip or the story's title though there is on the facing , contents , page .
The second story concerns Woodstock - and Snoopy - and , does bear a logo saying that it is " Woodstock - In (Title) " , as Archie comics will contain Mr. Flutesnoot/Dilton/Ethel/Moose stories , say .
With no real dialogue or internal monologue from Snoopy , it rather recalls the TV specials/movies .
The cover IS by Schulz . I assume it to be a reprint from the 50s/60s dell-Goldkey 'Nuts comic books .
The feel of that first story is rather of that late-50s " Charlie Brown/gang more ' normal ' kids " era .
I presume subsequent issues will have a " full " 22-ish pages for the full $2.99 .
Do the Schulzs see this as a way of keeping their property as widely exposed to the new generation as possible , especially considering the decline in newspaper sales/readership ?
Even as a tryout if thy DO ever reverse themselves on keeping the daily strip always r3eprints - Saayy , when the Classic Peanuts that started from the late 80s and is now at 1998 strips finished , in a little more than year ??????? Well - I'm just askin' !!!!!!!!!
Will I stay with it ? For issue #1 , anyway . I first anticipated we'd get some reprints of the Dell/GK material...........
