Quick Doctor Who question

I tried getting into Doctor Who back in my college days (the '80s), but it just wasn't for me, so I haven't followed it over the years.

However, I just had one of those stray "shower thoughts" one gets from time to time and I figured someone here could answer my question, namely:

Has the Doctor ever been intentionally betrayed by one of the companions? It seems like a really obvious plot point, and I'll be very surprised if it's never happened.

  • There was a companion back in the '80s called Turlough who was planted by the Doctor's enemy the Black Guardian, with the idea that Turlough would kill the Doctor, but Turlough eventually saw what a good guy the Doctor was and turned against the Guardian and became a true friend of the Doctor.

In 2005, there was a character called Adam Mitchell, who, when the Doctor took him into the far future, downloaded lots of info about future technology so he could take the info back to the 21st century and make money off it, but the Doctor put paid to that and threw him out of the TARDIS.

Those are the two that come to my mind.

  • Oh, dopey me, back in the '70s there was a character called Mike Yates, who fell in with some baddies and betrayed the Doctor and his pals. Geez, how did I forget him?

  • Thanks. I figured it had likely been done at least once, especially given how long the show has been running.
