In another thread where there was a discussion on the r:anking of heroes, someone said a major hero is one whose secret identity is well-known to the audience. That got me thinking about action figures and how they usually don't make the heroes' alter egos. So in my dreamworld where the figures are Star Wars size with vehicles, playsets and supporting cast in plastic, these are the DC and Marvel Secret Identity Figures that make the most sense to have.

DC:

  1. Clark Kent--almost a seperate character in and of himself. Great with a Daily Planet playset with Lois, Jimmy and Perry. If there is a Smallville set, definitely a teen version.
  2. Bruce Wayne--not a Batman figure with removeable pieces but a business suit or playboy Bruce. By extension there should probably a Dick Grayson one as well.
  3. Billy Batson--SHAZAM! No explaination needed. Plus Mary and Freddy, too!
  4. Lt. Diana Prince--with a military base set with Steve Trevor and Etta Candy or maybe a mod version with I Ching.
  5. Ray Palmer--always need a scientist in a STAR Labs set plus he is almost seperate from the Atom in his own way.
  6. John Jones--for the Silver Age fan in me.
  7. Jim Corrigan--Another cop for a police station set and the human half of the Spectre.
  8. Jack Ryder--a roving investigative reporter and a balance for the Creeper
  9. Ronnie Raymond & Martin Stein--two halves of Firestorm the Nuclear Man
  10. Bruce Gordon--the true hero of the Eclipso stories

Marvel:

  1. Peter Parker--again almost seperate from Spidey and part of Marvel's greatest supporting cast.
  2. Bruce Banner--really a seperate character. Could be made in normal clothes, torn clothes, mid-transformation.
  3. Tony Stark--can fit in a Stark Labs set, Avengers Mansion, SHIELD HQ.
  4. Matt Murdock--Lawyer to the Super-Heroes!
  5. Johnny Storm--not really a secret identity but most of his figures are ablaze!
  6. Doctor Don Blake--can always use a doctor
  7. Janet Van Dyne--or at least a full size Wasp figure
  8. Bobby Drake--can't be iced up all the time
  9. Peter Rasputin--a human Colossus
  10. Jack Russell--for the daytime hours

I didn't include Logan because there are plenty of Logan AFs!

Who would you like to see in plastic? Which playsets, vehicles and supporting cast members in our miniature dreamworld?

  • ...Don and Maggie Thompson used to argue that Bruce Wayne was such a non-distinct character that DC might , really , have a bit of a diffcult time copyrighting his character/likeness...
  • I would counter that Bruce has become a very distinct character. Sure there were periods where he was only the "rest phase" of the Dark Knight but there are several versions of Bruce to go with the various Batmen.
  • Really? I quit reading all things Batman years ago because Bruce Wayne was essentially written out of the series.
