The Earth-2 Thread

DC has just released covers for Earth-2 (a variant by Ivan Reis) and Worlds' Finest (by George Perez).

Here's Earth-2:

And it looks like the Earth-2 identities of Power Girl and Huntress were...

Supergirl and Robin???

I'm VERY intrigued. And wondering if that E-2 cover is a flashback...

  • And I just realized that the two yellow triangles on Power Girl's cape are the negative space of a stylized P. I love that.

  • I'm actually really looking forward to both of these books.

  • Oh, heck yeah!

  • I'll read Earth 2, but I'm pretty annoyed that we had to lose Helena Bertinelli in order to bring back Helena Wayne.  Gail Simone, Greg Rucka, Chuck Dixon and others did a lot to turn Bertinelli into a complex and compelling character, and it's a shame that Johns and Didio feel the need to throw her away in order to restore the status quo from their childhood (see also: Wally West and Linda Danvers).

  • Well, maybe I'm alone in this, but I think Power Girl's costume is hideous. Overly complicated, gimmicky and suggestive of absolutely nothing. I had no love for the boob oval on her previous costume -- pandering at its worst -- but the rest of the outfit was clean, simple and memorable. The Earth-2 Supergirl ought to be iconic, and this costume is about as far from that as it can get.

That being said, I'm still looking forward to the new/old Earth-2. A lot.

  • I am very intrigued. The Superman we see looks very young. Are those Parademons? Can this be Earth-Two or a variation of Earth-One where Batman had a daughter who was once Robin and Supergirl cut her hair and changed her name?

I like PG's new outfit. It's neat, shows off her form without showing too much of her form.

To KSwolf: After the Crisis, many readers lamented the loss of Helena Wayne and her replacement in Helena Bertinelli who took a long time to develop as a character and was mishandled a lot: see Batman: No Man's Land.

Can't wait til April (or May)!!

  • Given what I've heard for the contents of Action Comics #9 (a Superman from an alternate Earth versus a menace from yet a different alternate Earth) I think my earlier theory/suspicions posted in the second/third wave thread (page 3, fourth post) are becoming more accurate, don't you?

And Cap:  It's still basically the white body suit with red cape, but what gets me about Power Girl's "new" costume is the fact that she is now wearing an emblem, something PG's refused to do since the early days of the Super Squad when she turned down the one the Star Spangled Kid offered her.

  • On a related note, with the impending launch of Earth-2/JSA and World's Finest, what Earth(s) does everyone think the rest of the New 52 is happening on?

Obviously Mister Terrific is on whatever is considered the New DCU Earth now, since Power Girl and Huntress will be trying to get home in WF. But it definitely isn't what we used to know as Earth 1, since that has been taken over by the graphic novels.

So, is everyone still on the post Infinite-Final Crisis Earth (whichever one that was) in just new incarnations? Did everyone get cosmically transported to what is now the official New DCU Earth inbetween Flashpoint # 5 and all the first issues? Or are some of them actually else where?

I'm with you. This new costume reminds me of those bad ones she had in JLI.

  • White with yellow is boring. Better to go back to blue boots and red gauntlets.
