  • Ugh. Not really all that thrilled.
  • Really? This is the first time I'm thinking this may work.
  • I think it looks great!
  • I think the armor looks plastic and Loki looks more depressed than evil!
  • I like the bronze/burnished steel look of the armor and the fact it doesn't immediately look like it owes to any particular style or motif (other than Jack Kirby). It give Hopkin's the physical girth associated with Marvel's Odin without making him look portly. Also, I'm VERY glad they went with the one-eye. It always bothered me that Odin had two up until Roy Thomas fixed it back in the late 70s.
  • I was hoping for a more used look to the armor. I agree with Phillip it looks more plastic than anything else. Bad lookign armor isn't a deal breaker for me though.

It looks like Anthony Hopkins is about to break into a song.
  • You have to wonder what Thor's relationship with Odin will be like in the movie. In the comics, Odin could be more of the villain than Loki, at least from Thor's point of view and the readers'!

Actually, I almost expect to see Elijah Wood and Sean Astin pop up from behind them! "I will take the Ring...though I do not know the way!"
  • Looks a little goofy to me -- very Masters of the Universe -- but also very Kirby. But I think Trav hit the nail on the head that the armor doesn't look "used." Then again, they're gods, so why should it?

I've got no complaints. A little goofy is fine by me.
  • I always recall Kirby's armor -- all of Asgard, in fact -- as being shiny and pristine.

Plus, if they're going for the Kirby esthetic, Odin will be in a different set of armor every scene! (Odin really was the Janet Van Dyne of Asgard.)
  • Oh, definitely -- Asgard sparkled, from what I recall. Not that I was ever a big Thor reader before or since Simonson.

This seems like an area where being true to the comics is at odds with realism -- or more precisely, versimilitude. If the armor looks brand-new, it's true to the comics -- but it also looks like a costume, put on for one scene in front of the cameras.

That would be great if Odin was rocking different armor -- with insane Kirby flourishes -- in every scene!
