    • Yes, just watch the first episode. You'll know immediately whether or not it's a show you would enjoy. I agree with everything Mark said, including his high recommendation. It's ruined the Olympics for me, though (an unforeseen consequence).

  • RESIDENT ALIEN - Series Finale: Reportedly the cast was caught off-guard by the series' "cancellation," yet all of the plot threads were resolved and the endtire series was brought to a logical ending point. I don't know how they could have been "surprised" unless the series was cancelled well in advance of when I heard about it.

  • Thanks! I'll see if she's willing to try the first ep.

    • If so, do let us know what you think.

  • Possibly because I watched Pen15 a while ago (and recently rewatched the first two Mad Max movies), the algorithms recommended Puberty Blues, an Aussie series from the 20teens. I had been unaware of the entire phenomena. It began  with a controversial novel which became a cult classic. That inspired a cult movie in the 1980s. I have experienced neither, but I'm most of the way through the first of the TV show's two seasons. It's more complex than its title suggests. Yes, we have two teen besties negotiating adolescence in 70s Australia, but the show also focuses on the least-Neanderthal of the Aussie surfer dudes (given how they're depicted here, I'm likely slandering Neanderthals), and the parents / families of these characters. The parents get a lot of screen time, and they're often as messed up as their offspring.

I'm told that each incarnation softens the source material, but this is a well-made and frequently very uncomfortable blend of drama. comedy, and tragedy.

Has anyone else encountered th PB, in any of its incarnations? I think that I'll read the book at some point. Reportedly, it's a quick read.

  • Finished re-watching Sandman S1 in preparation for S2.

Began re-watching Wednesday S1 in preparation for S2.

I understand She-Hulk S2 started tonight (but that's going to have to wait).

We have also begun to watch Leave it to Beaver and The Beverly Hillbillies from the very beginning.

    • A few days back I watched Sandman S2. Considering how compressed it all was, I think they did an excellent job.

I watched Leave it to Beaver in its entirety a few months back, spread out a couple of episodes at a time. I had seen some of it when it was first broadcast, but I couldn't say which episodes. Nothing looked familiar.  The  writing was very good.

I have a few episodes to go in the Resident Alien final season. I will miss it.

    • I remember seeing the first episode of Leave it to Beaver (in reruns) when I was a kid (although I didn't realize it was the first episode at the time). I didn't recall the second episode at all. I know that I've seen some very early episodes of the Beverly Hillbillies, but I have never seen the first two before. As with many television shows of the '60s, I generally like the b&w episodes best, then not so much after they switch to color. This was true even when i was a kid, and I watched them all on a b&w set!

    • The first color season of The Beverly Hillbillies may be its most absurd, in a good way. It was my brother's favorite season of the show.

    • I'll let you know what I think when I get there. (I am working from 50-year-old memories, after all.) Do you happen to know which season that is?
