Mark, our tastes do not often overlap, but I loved Helen of Wyndhorn!
I'm sorry to hear you didn't like it quite as much as I did/do.
I really enjoyed it. But I found the whole fandom storyline somewhat distracting. The main storyline already establishes the fact that the Other World portrayed in the fantasy stories is, in fact, real. Obviously, it was important to King because it literally frames the story, in addition to recurring throughout.
