In previous years, this was a memory box so we didn't miss any good nominations for the Cappies. With the Cappies hypertimed away, that doesn't mean we have to discontinue these threads. I've always liked going back at the end of the year and seeing the books and stories and moments that people really champion -- including plenty of stuff that I've forgotten about come Christmastime.
So have at it, Legionnaires! It's a bold new year! What in 2017 has knocked you out?

I finally read this, and was a bit disappointed. Mainly because the bar had been set so high here.
That was my fault. :(
I still recommend it to anyone else (who likes super-hero comics), though, keeping in mind Cap's caveat above.
Allow me to make it up to you. Have you read Patrick McDonnell's The Super Hero's Journey? If not, please allow me to recommend it AGAIN (if you still trust me, that is).
Ha! Of course I still trust you. My opinion was biased fromt the start, as I explained, and I'm just jealous everyone else had a better time at the party than I did. I'll add the book above to my Amazon to-buy list. (Along with Danger Street, which I just remembered I meant to do. That's also your recommendation, but I wasnt it for Doctor Fate anyway.)
SHIPPED TODAY: Die!Die!Die!
This was my favorite series for the entire length of time it was being published, yet I have never re-read it. Under normal circumstances, a collection such as this would go right to the top of my reading list, but I'm kind of over-extended right now. It still might.
SHIPPED TODAY:
LOST CLASSICS FROM THE EARLY DAYS OF EC COMICS—ALL MOON GIRL STORIES, COLLECTED IN ONE PLACE FOR THE FIRST TIME!
THE COMPLETE MOON GIRL COLLECTS THE AMAZING ADVENTURES of Claire Lune and Lionel Manning—Moon Girl and the Prince—who together fend off invaders from other planets as well as fight crime, and who “dedicate themselves to the task of creating a better world.”
This hardcover volume collects Moon Girl #1 through #8, as well as all of the Moon Girl stories published in other EC titles. Scanned and digitally restored from the original comic books, it showcases the work of comic book greats Sheldon Moldoff and Johnny Craig!
I picked up my copy yesterday. It arrived at my Amazon locker the evening before, but I didn't want to go out again. Skimming it, I was impressed with the art and surprised that the majority of stories were by Gardner Fox.
...and drawn by Sheldon Moldoff.
Moldoff certainly got around. Too bad he was relegated to being "Bob Kane" in the latter years of his career.
I started this last night (10/14) and was surprised that the art wasn't better. It's by Sheldon Moldoff, and I was expecting Hawkman-level work. Instread, it was pretty pedestrian Golden Age stuff. Meanwhile the stories were watered-down Wonder Woman. The foreword says Moon Girl was different enough for DC not to sue, but to my mind Moon Girl was more similar to Wonder Woman than Captain Marvel was to Superman. I'm guessing the real reason they didn't sue is because, unlike Captain Marvel, Moon Girl wasn't a big success.
Oh, well. The foreword promises Johnny Craig, so there's that to look forward to.
It's by Sheldon Moldoff, and I was expecting Hawkman-level work.
This is what "pure" Moldoff looks like, without the swipes.

Agreed.
I'm guessing the real reason they didn't sue is because, unlike Captain Marvel, Moon Girl wasn't a big success.
Possibly, but that goes against the legal concept of "vigorous pursuit" of copyright infringement (which is what the Walt Disney Corporation goes after mom 'n' pop daycare centers that decorate their facility with Disney characters. (That Moon Girl was less successful than Captain Marvel is indisputable.)

I miss the swipes!
