A Cover a Day

Ok, how about this for an idea.  We take it in turns to post a favourite (British spelling) comic cover every day.  This went really well on the comic fan website that I used to frequent.  What we tried to do was find a theme or subject and follow that, until we all got bored with that theme.  I'd like to propose a theme of letters of the alphabet. So, for the remainder of October (only 5 days) and all of November, we post comic cover pictures associated with the letter "A".  Then in December, we post covers pertaining to the letter "B".  The association to the letter can be as tenuous as you want it to be. For example I could post a cover from "Adventure Comics" or "Amazing Spider Man".  However Spider Man covers can also be posted when we're on the letter "S".  Adventure Comic covers could also be posted when we're on the letter "L" if they depict the Legion of Super Heroes.  So, no real hard, fast rules - in fact the cleverer the interpretation of the letter, the better, as far as I'm concerned.

And it's not written in stone that we have to post a cover every day. There may be some days when no cover gets posted. There's nothing wrong with this, it just demonstrates that we all have lives to lead.

If everyone's in agreement I'd like to kick this off with one of my favourite Action Comic covers, from January 1967. Curt Swan really excelled himself here.

Discussion and voting on future monthly themes takes place on the "Nominations, Themes and Statistics for A Cover A Day" thread.  Click here to view the thread.

  • I guess I'll throw in one more "G" cover for May. Here's my favorite Giant-Man costume from Tales to Astonish 65, Jack Kirby with Chic Stone art.

  • That was my favorite Giant-Man costume, too.

    • June 2017 - Letter H.

  • Sorry to be so early but I have to get this out of my system:

Marvel Team Up #18 (F'74) starred the Human Torch and the Incredible Hulk!

This was the first (and the best, IMHO) of the Torch team-ups!

Hey, it's June in your time zone! I have 2 1/4 more hours.

  • EST Rules!

That MTU was the first "H" that came to me and I was afraid that someone would beat me to it!

  • Philip's post was well within the rules! he posted at 6am (British Summer Time) on 1st June.

I can see you guys are already on the Marvel route with Human Torch and the Hulk. For me, of course, "H" means mainly House of Secrets, House of Mystery and Hawkman. But above all these, hovers the beautiful images of The Hawk and the Dove!  I loved this short-lived series when it first came out. I must've read Showcase #75 20 times in about a week. The story really resonated with me - I don't know why. Perhaps I empathised with Don - or maybe with Hank!

    Here's H & D #2 - a Steve Ditko cover.

  • Gotta start the month with Marvel's first "Hulk" (...continued June 2018).

  • Don't wanna worry you Jeff, but in June 2018, if we're all still here, we'll be posting covers starting with "T"! (Sad pedant here - I sat down and worked that out).
