A Cover a Day

Ok, how about this for an idea.  We take it in turns to post a favourite (British spelling) comic cover every day.  This went really well on the comic fan website that I used to frequent.  What we tried to do was find a theme or subject and follow that, until we all got bored with that theme.  I'd like to propose a theme of letters of the alphabet. So, for the remainder of October (only 5 days) and all of November, we post comic cover pictures associated with the letter "A".  Then in December, we post covers pertaining to the letter "B".  The association to the letter can be as tenuous as you want it to be. For example I could post a cover from "Adventure Comics" or "Amazing Spider Man".  However Spider Man covers can also be posted when we're on the letter "S".  Adventure Comic covers could also be posted when we're on the letter "L" if they depict the Legion of Super Heroes.  So, no real hard, fast rules - in fact the cleverer the interpretation of the letter, the better, as far as I'm concerned.

And it's not written in stone that we have to post a cover every day. There may be some days when no cover gets posted. There's nothing wrong with this, it just demonstrates that we all have lives to lead.

If everyone's in agreement I'd like to kick this off with one of my favourite Action Comic covers, from January 1967. Curt Swan really excelled himself here.

Discussion and voting on future monthly themes takes place on the "Nominations, Themes and Statistics for A Cover A Day" thread.  Click here to view the thread.

    • I loved the three Flashes! There are so many now i can't keep up, but back then there were just three, each of whom had a distincitive outfit. Barry was the fastest (and the smartest), but the other two weren't to be sneezed at. And Jay lived on a parallel world, so when he wasn't around you didn't wonder why he wasn't. His team-ups were just rare enough to be an event.

    • Thanks Cap - I'm glad you appreciate it! I preferred just three Flashes too, and I greatly enjoyed the Earth-1/Earth-2 crossovers and Kid Flash team ups as well!

And you're right - there are too many Flashes nowadays. My cover for tomorrow demonstrates that. Stick around and see... wink

  • The legendary Justice Society of America had their own title until the end of the Golden Age. The group was revived in the Silver Age, but only through guest appearances with specifc member counterpart meetings (the Flashes, Green Lanterns, etc) and an annual team up with the Justice League of America until their originial title was revived in the mid-1970s. • Who are these guys?

    • Funny you should ask. Currently, some guy who posts at this site is doing a massive, extravagant, over-the-top re-read of their adventures. You should check it out!

  • Superboy #153. An absence of supervillains.

  • Although introduced as a mysterious antagonist  Black Panther was never a villain.

  • Okay, sure, Star Trek doesn't necessarily do hero vs villain stories (I was appalled when the question surrounding the second Abrams-reboot movie was, "which villain should appear?") but, given that splash-down takes place today around 8pm EST, this seemed fitting:
