Has anyone read Warren Ellis' Secret Avengers #16?  It's really good.  It's a done-in-one adventure about a trip to a Secret Empire secret city under the ground.

Beast and Moon-Knight and Black Widow are in it, under Steve Roger's command.  Good art, good writing, and self-contained.  It has some fun with Marvel's Cold War backhistory.  It might have come out in a bad month, with so much fuss being made over the whole DCnU 52.  This has got a lot of praise around the netz.

A lot of Warren Ellis' previous work at Marvel only starts to get praise and recognition after he moves on, so everyone should read this while its being produced.

  • I've read Secret Avengers #16 and wrote about it here. It was a great issue.

I've always been more on the Marvel side of things most of my life. However, recently I've been enjoying DC, slightly more.

Besides the newest Secret Avengers there's some other good Marvel stuff out there.

Daredevil is amazing. I read issue 4 last night, what a final page! Check that one out.

Invincible Iron Man continues to be good, even through Fear Itself.

The just finished Fear Itself Spider-man was very good.

The Ultimate relaunch books have all been good.

The just finished newest Criminal mini was great. Be on the look out for the trade.

Amazing Spider-man usually will have a gem of an issue once or twice a month.

During the Fear Itself tie-ins Secret Avengers hadn't been too good. Now with Issue 16 and Warren Ellis,I think we'll see some quality stuff.

Iron Man 2.0 is a solid series as well. It's at issue 8, I think. Start with number 1 or tradewait. There's an interesting mystery running through that book.

From what I hear Uncanny X-force is a terrific. I don't read it but maybe I should.

People also seem to enjoy Avengers Academy.

  • I bought and read my two current favorite Marvel titles yesterday: Captain America and Daredevil.

Daredevil especially is the best superhero comic series I've read in a long time.

    What he said!
  • Daredevil is fantastic. It's the only Marvel book I'm reading right now. But I might check out Secret Avengers if that issue is done-in-one.
  • I'm sick of hearing how good Daredevil is.  It seems to be unanimous.  Even Tucker Stone of the Factual Opinion, who only reads comics in order to jeer at how lame they are*, had unqualified praise for it.

I decided I should support it, but the first time I decided to buy all the issues so far, the LCS only had issue 1 and issue 3 and the second time I tried to buy it they only had issue 1,2 and 4.  Grrr!

I suppose I may wait for the trade now.

BTW, in case I forget, my own jeering here is why I offered up this nugget of appreciation to Marvel.

*And DC and Marvel keep obliging him with all the vindication he needs.
