Kevin will be a new student introduced in the Veronica title according to artist Dan Parent.  Veronica really likes him, but can't understand why he isn't gaga over her.  Jughead knows, but he cautions Kevin not to tell Veronica...primarily because he's enjoying watching Ronnie fall all over herself trying to attract Kevin.  Hopefully, that storyline will be quickly resolved and won't be Kevin's long-term deal.  Parent says that when the others find out Kevin's gay, it'll be no big deal.  I like this new progressive Archie comics thing...

  • Is something in the water over there at Archie? First the "Archie Gets Married" series, then Archie kissing Valerie from Josie and the Pussycats, and now this -- it's like they're trying to join the 20th century or something ...
  • I think having Michael Uslan over there has helped a lot.
  • Awesome news.

Didn't one of the Archie founders die in the past year or so. Could he have been holding all this back? (Not necessarily through any of the -ism, mind you, except maybe old-fashionedism and timidity?)

And by the way, I picked up Jughead #200 -- a full length story in which Jug bargains away his metabolism to a witch (shades of "One More Day"!) and it was actually a heck of a fun read.
  • Cool news. I like this kind of progress.
  • Random thoughts:

My Mom is going to hate this. I wouldn't say that she's homophobic but she's anti-gay for sure.

A lot of people are going to go nuts about this in a bad way. In some areas, it will surely have a negative effect on Archie's sales.

Some people will think this is terrific and buy the story just because of Kevin.

I'm O.K. with the creation of Kevin but think they should've just used Jughead.
  • Yeah, Jughead #200 was great!
  • Jughead is more like Sherlock Holmes romantically. He borders on asexuality!

I wish that were so. There's still a lot of hatred and irrational fear out there, though.
  • Here's a "What If -- ?" story for you: "What if this new kid Kevin Keller was in one of those old Archie Spire Christian comics?"
