Batwoman #1: Initial Reaction

Another one I picked up on a whim - I was never a huge Batwoman fan, but I quite liked this one. It's got an interesting set of characters that interact interestingly with one another and an interesting new - to me, at least, mysterious threat right out of the gate. I hadn't intended on following this but I might just give it a try.

I wasn't too wild about the artwork at first, but it kind of grew on me after awhile.

  • Anyone else look at this? I'm curious to see what people think.
  • Batwoman is a character I wanted to like, but her appearances in 52 didn't live up to the considerable preceding media hype so I never really became interested in the character.
  • I haven't read it yet, but I have flipped through just to gaze at the art...which is AMAZING.

  • Amazing art indeed.  I like the addition of Bette Kane (Flamebird) and the explanation of why Kate and her dad are on the outs makes sense. I'll be back for number 2.
  • This comic is the one that took me the longest to read. I found myself rereading pages just to examine the panel structure and flow.

The writing on this has so far kept up the quality that Rucka established in the Detective Comics run featuring Batwoman. Anyone who liked this should probably enjoy the TP of that run.

  • It took so long for this comic to come out I lost interest myself. Maybe I'll pick up the trade later on down the line.
  • The artwork is stunning and the emotions are very raw. Not sure if I understand how Bette Kane fits in the DCnU and obviously this issue was completed way before the new 52 were planned. But, all in all, a superior product!
