Right now I am reading the mammoth collection of Jason Lutes's Berlin. I tried to do some research, and from what I have found, this seems to be the first time the conclusion has ever been seen. I must admit that my "investigation" into this was kind of surface-level, but at the very least, this is the first time it's all been collected.

It is a fascinating and timely look at what happened in Germany in the early part of the 20th century that led to the rise of the Nazi Party.

Right now, I am only on page 150 of 500+ pages, so I will report back. This seems like a shoe-in for my favorite of 2018.

  • I remember reading the first installment of Berlin years ago. And liking it, but not much else! Happy to hear it has been completed, as I somehow missed that news.

  • Just checked my library, Comixology and Amazon. Not in the library or Comixology, but 58% off at Amazon! So this is the first print edition of a comic I've bought in awhile.

  • That's exactly what prompted me to buy it, Mark. It was an incredible deal.

  • Sounds right up my alley! Thanks for the heads up, Sensei!

  • The more I read of this book, the more I...like?...the way it shows all of the people in a sympathetic light. You can see why certain people choose to do and believe certain things. It's incredibly well told through the mundane interactions of people who are just trying to get by every day, doing what they have to do in order to survive and feed their families. Not everyone exactly has the luxury of being an idealist.

  • I've got a copy of it too. I picked up the first nine or so issues when it originally came out, but they were released so sporadically that I lost track of it. I'm thrilled it's complete, and REALLY need to move it from my to-read pile to my reading pile.

  • They printed the first issue (I believe) for this past FCBD and I rather enjoyed it. I will try to fit the big book into my reading list.

  • I ordered the book and it got here in 2 days!

I told my wife it's set at the same time as Babylon Berlin and she expressed the sort of tepid interest that tells me that she will never read it. But I will read it, as time allows.

Or I will use it as a weapon in Marvel Team Strike! It's substantial.

  • Sensei, if you're thinking about starting a discussion give me some warning. I haven't started reading it yet, but I could make it a priority if you want to talk about it. I've read a couple of books for local book groups for that reason!

  • Sounds like a great idea, Mark. Cap? Rob? Interested? Travis, does it look like it will fit into your reading list?
