Blood Type

The latest addition to Oni Press's "EC" imprint is Blood Type, a four-issue limited series featuring a single character, a vampire named Ada, spun out of a single story from Epitaphs from the Abyss #3 about a vampire in a lifeboat. This series picks up as the ship which rescued her docks on a tropical island vacation retreat, one possible already occupied by a vampire or vampires, or perhaps ghouls. As a serialized horror story, it may not fit the style of EC Comics, but it certainly fits the spirit.

  • ISSUE #2: Ada's vampiric origin is revealed (in flashback), and the mystery of the island progresses (in the present).

  • I'm hoping to read this one eventually, but I haven't been picking up the individual issues. I'm glad you're enjoying it!

  • I generally don't like modern vampire fiction in which the vampires are the "good guys" (except for Barnabas Collins of Dark Shadows who was "grandfathered in"). I generally prefer the kind in which the "stinkin' vamp" gets it in the end. Whereas I don't necessarily think that's ever going to happen to Ada (nor would I want it to, necessarily), there is no way the central character could ever be mistaken for a "good guy."

  •  I read the 2 first issues yesterday, and so far so good. It has been a while since I've seen Anrdrea Sorrentino's art, so that was a real pleasure.  A little mystery to enjoy, which I find pretty engaging. I'm looking forward to the rest
