Diamond Comics Distributors filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection today. They also announced that they were selling off pieces of their large company - Alliance Games and Diamond UK were two mentioned today with others likely to happen soon.
What does this mean for the comic book business? Hard to tell for sure. Diamond has been losing pieces of the distribution business for the last five years and right now they're a comparatively minor player in the game. However, when it comes to small press comics Diamond is one of the few viable nationwide distribution options.
Remember that a Chapter 11 filing indicates an intent for the business to continue after a reorganization.

Thanks, Luis. Everything you say is news to me, and I'm an eager student.
For the last few years, I have been subscribing to Alter Ego, which is published by TwoMorrows. My current subscription ends with issue #192. I looked at the website to see when that issue was likely to ship and discovered that Diamond shipped #191 and Lunar is shipping #192. Then I noticed this banner:
The debts involved are affecting a number of companies awaiting payment from Diamond. I just received an email from TwoMorrows indicating they are in trouble. Here is the relevent portion of the email:
Diamond Comic Distributors has filed for bankruptcy without paying for our December and January magazines and books, leaving us with enormous losses—and we still have to cover our expenses on those items, and keep producing your favorite publications. Until payments from our new distributor begin in a few months, we’re staying afloat with webstore sales.

Luckily, I have been preparing for the complete collapse of the comic book "industry" for my entire life. I am prepared.

Of course, they've been temporarily postponed, until Trump gets ... whatever it is he wants. Nobody seems to know.
Rumors of layoffs at Dark Horse Apparently, one editor has announced that they've been laid off, and it's believed that there have been many more.
Not sure if this is related to the Diamond Bankruptcy, but Dark Horse Digital is shutting down.
Whatever it is, it doesn't sound good.
