Here's my first entry on this side of the aisle: Best cover: Air #10.
The shame of it is, the logo (missing here) is par of what's so cool about the cover. On the published version, it's sinking into the sea, and you can see its reflection.

I've already got an early contender for the Best Cover Cappie of '09:
(Don't actually know what cover that is, but I assume it's a Captain Britain one..)
From Me: Just a string around my finger: Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez and Kevin Nowlan are doing some really fine work in the King Tut story in Batman: Confidential.
Lime Coke: THis is to remind me to nominate Incognito as the best mini series. For all you waiting for the trade I'm sure it'll be available to be nominated for best collected edition or whatever we're calling that category.
Alan M: Will it be a best cover nominee? Maybe not, but I found this week's House of Mystery, #11, grabbed my attention when I saw it on shelf:
Mart and Chris Fluit had this exchange:
Mart: And this is to remind me to nominate Jason (Secret Six) Wright as Best Colourist, if such there be.
Chris: Not to dampen your enthusiasm, but there not be. Er, there isn't one. No "best first issue" category either, though a really good first issue could be nominated in the "best single issue" category.
Mart: Ooh phooey, can you remind me where the list of categories is? How about funniest panel? This from Age of the Sentry 6.
Wherin Chris supplied the categories:

And Mart thanked him: That's great, thank you Chris.
Jeff of Earth J: wrote: I will be very, very surprised if 2009 sees a better archival reprint package than the two-volume Humbug! slipcase released this past Wednesday. This release scores at the top in terms of packaging, historical value, entertainment value and scarcity. None of Humbug!'s 11 issues have ever been reprinted! If 2009 does see an archival reprint that beats Humbug! in all these catagories, I will be very, very surprised... but very, very pleased as well.
From Dagwan: Beanworld: Wahoolazuma! is pretty spiffy. Nope, I'm not gonna stop until you get it.
And Alan M chimed in:
So I don't know as I'm really going to need to Memory Box this one, but I don't want a moment come nomination time... Best Writer: Neil Gaiman Best Story Arc: Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?
Oops... my mistake. The reveal I thought I was seeing -- that Jeanette was the Silver Banshee (no need for spoilers since it ain't so -- isn't actually the case, as it turns out (according to Gail Simone on the You''ll All Be Sorry boards). She's a banshee, which we knew, but not the Silver Banshee. That's just the way they look in the DCU, apparently.

Don't wanna forget anything from the last board, but I don't know a good way of copying the whole thread, so here's what we've put in the box so far:
Alan M provided the first item:

From Mart: Best first issue - my contenders include Mysterius the Unfathomable, Johnny DC's Brave and the Bold and R.E.B.E.L.S.
Tackiest cover - War of Kings: http://dangermart.blogspot.com/2009/02/war-of-kings.html

Now, tossing another something into the memory box...
For the RIP award, I don't want to forget Lilandra and...well, I'll hold off on mentioning the other one for a few weeks, I think.
Oh yeah, and I'll tuck Darkhawk under my hat as a possible Best Character Recovery candidate.
Now that you mention it, I'll put Silver Banshee (Spoilers for Secret Six #12) in that Best Character Recovery category, too!
And Jeremy Bastian for most underrated talent...
