The Titans have stepped up to become the DCU's premier superhero team, and all eyes are on them! Who are Starfire, Raven, Donna Troy and Beast Boy? Where do they come from, and what do they stand for? All will be revealed in Tales of the Titans, an all-new series of spotlight issues in the spirit of the beloved 1980s classic Tales of the New Teen Titans! First up is alien princess and warrior Starfire, whose huge heart, huger hair and fiery fists have made her a fan-favorite member of the team! When a spaceship bearing Tamaranean markings crash-lands on Earth, Starfire goes on a solo mission to uncover its origins. But what awaits her on that journey will bring her back to the earliest days of her youth, to memories of two sisters eternally at war ... and perhaps the chance to keep history from repeating itself.

  • The first cover is an homage to the cover of Tales of the New Teen Titans #4 (by George Perez), the last issue of a four-issue miniseries in 1982 that focused on (in order) Cyborg, Raven, Changeling and Starfire. This new series seems to be in the same vein, only now the order is Starfire, Raven, Donna Troy and Beast Boy. (Changeling is back to being Beast Boy and Wonder Girl swaps for Cyborg.)

Following directly from the pages of Red Sonja #0, the She-Devil finds herself on the run, framed for murder, and with an unseen force tugging at the back of her mind. Join Sonja as she races to unravel the mystery of "His Master's Voice!"

We have a special letter from its critically acclaimed writer Torunn Grønbekk to all our retailer partners. She touches on how this project came together, and what the character means to her. We can't wait for everyone to get their hands on this book!

Hey Comic Fans!

Let’s talk about Red Sonja.

Norwegian winters are famously long and cold, but it’s the darkness that'll get you. It feels like more than just the absence of light – it’s like a living being that soundlessly seeps in and takes over you and the world around you for months on end. The only way to fight it is through fire and light, both literally and figuratively.

This winter, Sonja was my light.

I’m not sure exactly when I knew Red Sonja was something special, but I must have been pretty young. I remember playing Sonja as a kid, roaming around in the woods behind our house with various weapons and imaginary enemies. One time, I borrowed (stole) my mother’s (way too) heavy viking sword and spent the day slaying infected hordes of barbarians. I hurt myself pretty badly, slicing my shin open on a rock during a particularly vigorous battle (as in, a rope swing accident. I was "scaling a fortress," if memory serves), but I didn’t go home. It was summer, the days were endless, the world was full of magic, and Sonja would hardly let a small flesh wound stop her now, would she? I still have the scar (and, come to think of it, the sword! What a thief).

Now, this story might not convince you that Sonja is a good role model, but I sincerely believe she is. There is something about the combination of her joy, formidable strength, delight, and shamelessness that is quite unique to Sonja. She does not accept others limiting what she can be, nor does she particularly care when people disapprove of whatever she does. She gave zero f*cks before it was a thing. And to a young Torunn, she was bloody freedom.

Decades later, I am writing Red Sonja in the dead and dark of winter. I have sensibly exchanged the sword for a pen, but escaping into Sonja’s world is as joyful as ever. As the winter kept us in its usual chokehold, and the world outside became increasingly nonsensical, I have reveled in the genre, in Sonja’s wit, and in the bloody, horrible journey we’ve embarked on.

Dynamite wanted to go big and back to basic for Sonja’s 50th anniversary, and that’s exactly what we’ve done. Sonja is hunted through the realm, accused of a murder she (probably) did not commit, and pursued by a mysterious presence she cannot explain. It is a brutal, witty, action-packed adventure beautifully drawn by the brilliant Walter Geovani. Now, at this point, Walter has drawn more issues of Red Sonja than anyone else, and it shows. The action is spot-on, the world is magical, and Sonja herself is as stunning as ever.

People throw around the phrase "labor of love" all the time, but it has rarely been more fitting. There is a lot of love in this book: for the genre, for comics, but most of all, for Sonja herself. (But just to be clear, it’s not a peaceful story. We also love decapitated heads). Omi Remalante Jr.'s atmospheric colors complement Walter’s art perfectly, and Simon Bowland's excellent lettering pulls it all together. The result is a celebration of Sonja. I hope you will join us!

Here’s to fifty more years!

Story: Cliff Bleszinski, Alex De Campi | Art: Sandy Jarrell | Covers: Juan Ferreyra, Sandy Jarrell | Young Adult

Acclaimed game designer Cliff Bleszinski (Gears of War, Fortnite) will make his comics writing debut with critically acclaimed co-writer Alex De Campi (Dracula, Motherf**Ker!, Parasocial) and up-and-coming artist Sandy Jarrell (Bombshells, Lynx) in the forthcoming Scrapper. This six issue sci-fi miniseries is set to launch this July from Image Comics.

"As a lifelong fan of comics it's an honor to actually create one with Alex,” said Bleszinski. “Scrapper comes from the heart; first, the loss of my Aussie Teddy and then finding puppy love again with our Pomsky Lady. I truly hope everyone enjoys this deeply personal work."

Science-Fiction-style action mixes with big emotions as stray dog Scrapper and his buddy Tank fight for justice against the totalitarian forces of a post-apocalyptic domed city. But when the fight comes to his home, Scrapper will face losing what’s most important to him — and gain a terrifying truth in the process.

“It’s been a joy to get back to full-bore, edge-of-your seat action writing in a monthly comic, even more so when I get to base it around such a wonderful cast of urban animals as we’ve created in Scrapper,” said De Campi. “If you have pets you love, or you’ve ever just wanted to pet the dog in a video game, this is the book for you.”

Brian K. Vaughan and Niko Henrichon's Pride of Baghdad meets Ridley Scott's Blade Runner in this action-packed Young Adult series filled with heart.

Today Skybound revealed a striking set of all-new The Walking Dead Deluxe connecting variant covers from superstar artist Conor Hughes (White Ash, The Game). Covering the “Life Among Them” arc of the landmark comic series, Hughes’ covers showcase notable scenes from the survivors’ gruesome journey to the Alexandria Safe-Zone.

These all-new covers will appear as variants to The Walking Dead Deluxe #67-72, with each issue presenting the series in full color format for the first time from writer/creator Robert Kirkman, with art by Charlie Adlard and colors by Dave McCaig. Fans will also receive a new look at the worldwide pop culture phenomenon with pinups and exclusive “Cutting Room Floor” commentary by Kirkman, celebrating the secret history of the series.

“Conor’s covers transition us into a new chapter for THE WALKING DEAD DELUXE comic series ... the long-awaited arrival at Alexandria,” said Amanda LaFranco, Editor, Skybound Entertainment. “The first three covers in this set really capture the intensity of life on the road, as the group pushes towards Washington, D.C., and walkers are still very much a concern through the metropolitan city. But it’s the final three covers that emphasize the eerie calm of what life is like in this new settlement for our group. Michonne may be hanging up her sword, but for how long?”

Marvel’s slickest vampire hunter returns in a brand new ongoing by Bryan Hill (KILLMONGER) and Elena Casagrande (BLACK WIDOW)!

True evil is patient. And a dark, ancient power has been simmering quietly for centuries … and when Blade himself is the one to unknowingly unleash it, Marvel’s entire supernatural underworld will come out of hiding to demand he handle it. Or pay a pound of flesh for his mistakes.

Bloodbaths, blackmail and Blade — you won’t want to miss the explosive first issue of this new volume!

“Blade is a treasured character for me,” Hill told Polygon. “Here, we have an opportunity to explore his history, reveal new aspects of his world and create a story that’s brutal, sexy, and bold as it travels into the world of monsters and magic.”

BLADE #1 will provide an ideal entry point into the saga of this horror and pop culture icon whose star power is set to grow even larger in the years ahead.

  • I used to find Blade boring. The movies piqued my interest for a bit, but now I'm back to finding Blade boring. Evidently, though, Marvel expects him to be a breakout character. An overnight success, 50 years in the making!

Jed MacKay told IGN, “Working on MOON KNIGHT #25 was a bit of a mammoth task . … Seventy pages of story, cutting between three stories, each with their own artist! It was a really exciting opportunity to have that much space to work in, telling a Moon Knight story in a longer form than we're usually used to.” He continues, “Bringing Layla El-Faouly into our story was exciting. Adding an already beloved character into the universe of the comics is a really interesting opportunity, and being able to show the "before" to David and Marcelo's "after" was a wonderful bit of synchronicity. It was an idea that we both came to independently, and the way our stories were able to dovetail is something that I'm looking forward to people experiencing. While the Scarlet Scarab will indeed be turning up in MOON KNIGHT: CITY OF THE DEAD, in MOON KNIGHT #25 we're seeing a much younger Layla and a much younger Marc Spector as they embark on a mission as members of the crack mercenary team, the Karnak Cowboys."

David Pepose added, "I'm thrilled to be tackling one of my all-time favorite Marvel characters in MOON KNIGHT: CITY OF THE DEAD. Teaming up with sensational artist Marcelo Ferriera, we're sending Marc Spector on one of his most mind-bending adventures to date — rescuing a young runaway's soul from the City of the Dead. Yet as a mercenary and as a hero, Moon Knight has been no stranger to leaving a body count ... so he might see some familiar faces looking for payback! But Marc won't be embarking on this mission alone… I couldn't be more excited to be writing Layla El-Faouly's debut as the all-new Scarlet Scarab! Layla has been such a fun character to adapt — she knows Marc better than almost anyone, and that tension is going to spark some spectacular fireworks on this otherworldly adventure.”

  • I've always had a mild interest in Moon Knight, but the TV show has heightened it. For one thing, now I hear Oscar Isaac's voice in the dialogue. Also, the show made the Steven Grant personality more than just a Bruce Wayne knockoff.

On Aug. 6, 1945, at 8:15 in the morning, an explosive charge of more than 15 kilotons fell on the city of Hiroshima. Tens of thousands of people were pulverized, and everything within four square miles was instantly destroyed. A deluge of flames and ash had just caused Japan's greatest trauma and changed the course of modern warfare and life on Earth forever. The world was horrified by the existence of the bomb-the first weapon of mass destruction. But how could such an appalling tool be invented? In The Bomb, Didier Alcante, Laurent-Frédéric Bollée, and Denis Rodier have created an exhaustive and definitive work of nonfiction that details the stories of the unsung players as well as the remarkable men and women who are at the crux of its history and the events that followed.

Homicide, the celebrated true crime-book from the creator of HBO's The Wire, is reenvisioned in this first volume of a gritty, cinematic graphic novel duology. In 1988, journalist David Simon was given unprecedented access to the Baltimore Police Department's homicide unit. Over the next 12 months, he shadowed detectives as they took on a slew of killings in a city where killings were common. Only the most heinous cases stood out — chief amongst them the rape and murder of 11-year-old Latonya Wallace. Originally published in 1991, Simon's Homicide became the basis for the acclaimed television show Homicide: Life on the Streets and inspired HBO's The Wire. Now, this true-crime classic is reimagined as a gritty two-part graphic novel series.

Nouns DAO is an open-source brand. Nouns are online tokens, available for anyone to use, with a special voting mechanism which allows any member to propose and vote for what to use the Treasury for. Alongside appearing in a Budweiser commercial during Super Bowl, and in 2023’s Rose Parade, approved activity includes creating glasses for children in need, and cleaning up beaches. There are over 550 Nouns published worldwide, and they are valued at $22 million.

Nouns co-creator 4156, a pseudonymous cryptocurrency entrepreneur who uses the numbers of his former cryptopunk as his moniker, said  “comics are the perfect medium for the early proliferation of an open-source brand. The medium has always been a home for up-and-coming subcultures and demonstrated a willingness to embrace crazy ideas and take risks.”

This sensational new six-issue series will be written by David Leach (Psycho Gran) with art by Danny Schlitz (William Shakespeare’s Avengers: The Complete Works), and will tap into the irreverent humor and playground-style fun that the brand’s identity has been known for.

Writer David Leach says “It's the Marx Brothers meets Hellzapoppin' meets Apocalypse Now meets Death in Venice, if Venice was an insane theme-park designed by Sid and Marty Krofft. Expect a deeply moving coming-of-age drama about a small town thimble salesman caught up in politically charged espionage caper involving a stolen atom bomb, a signed picture of the pope and a man with a fox for a head. I've finally been given a chance to craft an intimate and deeply personal human interest docudrama about life in a Cornish cream miners community during the era of the Tolpuddle Martyrs In the 1830s and I couldn't be happier. Nouns: Nountown will be a six-issue miniseries featuring the Nouns in their first comic book adventure. Expect a level of relentless, manic mayhem and idiotic behaviour previously undreamt of.”

STAR TREK: DAY OF BLOOD #1

11036168485?profile=RESIZE_710xStory: Christopher Cantwell, Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing | Art: Ramon Rosanas | Cover: Malachi Ward | IDW | $5.99

Beginning in July with the Star Trek: Day of Blood #1 one-shot special, the emperor of the Klingon Empire, Kahless II, will declare war on all those who do not follow the cult of the Red Path! Having raided ancient tombs, claimed near-limitless power for himself, and slaughtered cosmic entities across the stars, Kahless sees the genocide of gods as simply his first step to total domination. The iconic crew of the U.S.S. Theseus, led by Benjamin Sisko, and the renegades who follow a desperate, violent Worf aboard the U.S.S. Defiant must unite for a common cause. Only together can they hope to stop the Day of Blood!

“Star Trek was the original shared universe … so Collin, Chris and I are deeply honored to continue to bring a linewide continuity and intricately planned storyline to the new IDW comics line,” says Lanzing. “Our very first pitch on this story included two interlocking ongoing titles that could build to a kind of event unlike any that Trek comics have managed before — an inspiring, mind-bending flagship series in Star Trek and a more subtle, dark and dangerous series in Defiant. It was an absolute pipe dream of a pitch, one that we never imagined would become the backbone of a hit new comics line — nor unite us with a writer of Christopher Cantwell’s caliber, who would push us to constantly deliver next-level comics storytelling, nor masterful artists like Ramon Rosanas and Ángel Unzueta, who would elevate every page with their designs, artistry, and ambition. And now, one year into the line, we’re finally ready to bring it all to a head with our very first linewide comics event.”

“Worf has a warning for his one-time friend and captain, Benjamin Sisko: Kahless the Unforgettable, the sovereign of the Klingon Empire and killer of gods, is preparing to unleash something truly horrific on his own people. Converging on the Klingon homeworld, the two crews will have their long-awaited reunion … but even with tempers hot, the two have no choice but to put aside old grievances or else watch the carefully cultivated peace of the Beta Quadrant burn in the fires of holy crusade. With mighty Kahless at their head, the Red Path will not be stopped until all those who do not share their absolute faith are cut down,” says Kelly. “We started laying the groundwork for this story in Star Trek: Year Five, built upon it in Star Trek: Aliens — Klingons, and then will truly kick it off in this year’s Free Comic Book Day prelude, so it’s no exaggeration that Day of Blood is an event three years in the making!”

“I sincerely believe that Day of Blood is the ‘lost episode/movie/epic limited series’ that Deep Space Nine, Voyager and The Next Generation fans have been dying for. But what’s truly amazing is that beyond those series, we’re tying in a heaping dose of Lower Decks (in the form of Shaxs), the original series (including a reunion of Spock and Scotty) and so many other aspects of this universe. It’s truly a galactic panacea unlike any Trek story I’ve encountered in the past as a fan,” says Cantwell. “What’s also wonderful about this series is that things happen in it that can only exist in the realm of comics in terms of scope and pure sci-fi imagination, all anchored by beautiful core themes of partnership, parenthood, second chances, and the belief in a better tomorrow … whether that be a utopian or a vainglorious one. Buckle in because this is the Trek saga of my dreams!”

Critics are raving about the Star Trek and Star Trek: Defiant comic series. TrekMovie.com praised IDW’s flagship series as “a very strong start to the massive undertaking of building a Star Trek cinematic universe for comics.” ComicBook.com calls it “quality Star Trek storytelling on a grand scale,” while Comic Crusaders applauds the storyline as “original, impactful, [and] forward moving.”

“Creating the first-ever Star Trek comic book summer event was our goal from the very beginning of conversations surrounding Star Trek #1’s launch last fall,” says senior editor Heather Antos. “The fact that both series have been received so well — all credit to the amazing team of writers and artists across the line — is absolutely incredible. We’re only going bigger, badder and more boldly in Day of Blood.”

TMNT: THE LAST RONIN — LOST DAY SPECIAL

10961482458?profile=RESIZE_710x10961482471?profile=RESIZE_710xStory: Kevin Eastman, Tom Waltz | Art: Ben Bishop | Cover: Kevin Eastman | IDW | $7.99

IDW announces today that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin — Lost Years, the upcoming five-issue prequel to the New York Times best-selling The Last Ronin, will further expand its epic tale with a tie-in one-shot by writers Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz, illustrator Ben Bishop, and colorist Luis Antonio Delgado. The 40-page special issue, available in May, is called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin—Lost Day Special and will straddle both the past and the future of the Last Ronin universe, setting the stage for thrilling new tales to come.

In Lost Day, longtime resistance leader April O’Neil finds herself and her loved ones — including the four young mutant turtles she and her daughter, Casey Marie Jones, are raising and training together — once again caught up in the battle for the soul of New York City. When April takes the turtles with her on a supply run into the city, they get lost and risk becoming collateral damage in the newest power struggle overtaking the streets. Old memories mix with new realities as April and her four small charges race to get back home before it’s too late.

“As Tom Waltz and I dig deep into the evolution of New York City post-Last Ronin, the Lost Day tale brings the future of all things TMNT up close and very personal,” says Eastman. “Buckle up, things are about to get messy!”

“The amazing success of TMNT: The Last Ronin has certainly opened doors to new and exciting storytelling opportunities within what we are now fondly calling the Ronin-verse,” says Waltz. “Lost Years will expand upon some of the Last Ronin’s history that was hinted at in the first volume, while simultaneously pushing forward the new reality that was teased in its epilogue. ... And within Lost Years, Kevin and I are excited to have the opportunity to join artist Ben Bishop to tell a one-shot tale, Lost Day. The past, present and future are full of surprises that we can’t wait to share with our readers!”

“Having a chance to expand on the world and characters of the Last Ronin story is the opportunity of a lifetime, and we’ve got some really fun, exciting, and historic stuff coming! Can’t wait for everyone to see it,” says Bishop.

“Although the main Lost Years series focuses on Michelangelo’s past and the journey that made him the unyielding warrior we saw in The Last Ronin, we realized that Lost Years was also an exciting opportunity to look ahead,” says senior editor Charles Beacham. “This action-packed Lost Day Special is going to pull at heartstrings and have readers on the edge of their seats as they get the first in-depth look at the little turtles teased at the end of The Last Ronin. It’s going to be epic!”

12144618300?profile=RESIZE_710xStory: Frank Baker | Art: Tim Ogline | Imagine and Wonder | $24.99

During Adolf Hitler's rule over Germany, there were over 40,000 Nazi concentration, labor and death camps built with the intent of erasing an entire population of Jews, Sinti and Roma, as well as "other examples of impure races." Bluma Tishgarten and Felix Goldberg were both young Polish Jews caught up in the Holocaust, Hitler's rise to power, the rise of antisemitism, and more. Yet they survived. Bluma and Felix's miraculous story of survival, combined with the rise of nationalism and fascism, leading to the extermination of millions of human beings, is also a cautionary tale-a dangerous history that, if we do not heed the warning signs, could very well be repeated.

WE ARE THE SMURFS VOL 2: BETTER TOGETHER

  • Changeling is back to being Beast Boy...

I am in the process of rereading those old Wolfman/Perez New Teen Titans, and in the issue I read today (which took me forty minutes, BTW... 40!) a bystander refers to him as "that Beast Boy kid" and Changling monoloagues, "Sigh! I spend one million of my dad's money, hire the best consultants to come up with a glitzy new name for me... and those jerks down there still call me Beast Boy." I always thought "Changling" was a better codename than "Beast Boy." Have we come full circle now? Is "Beast Boy" cooler, more hip?

    EXTREME VENOMVERSE!

    Another poetry book?

"The website says this series "feels like Strangers in Paradise in a mystical NYC." So if you're a Terry Moore fan, you might check it out."

    Uh... no.

  • We'll have to agree to disagree on "Changeling." I always disliked it, because it's inaccurate. A changeling isn't somebody who changes, it's a fairy left in the place of a human baby. Using "Changeling" for a character who changes is like using "noisome" to mean noisy.

  • Whoa, so Catwoman's greatest nightmare is Japanese tentacle porn? - I might be right there with her.

    Sighhhh.

"Summer of Symbiotes" tie-in. - I try to look on the bright side. It is a bunch of comics I don't have to worry about buying.

HOMICIDE PART 1 GN - I didn't order it, so I hope my LCS got a copy. Or I may have, but I never turned in my July Previews...

ROCK & ROLL BIOGRAPHIES: KING DIAMOND - One of those people in the heavy metal circle that a ton of people love...I never got it.

IDW is just spewingTMNT content. - To make up for all of the other licenses they lost I reckon.

  •  I always disliked it, because it's inaccurate. A changeling isn't somebody who changes, it's a fairy left in the place of a human baby.

    Yeah, but "Beast Boy"?

    • I don't find that any odder than Bat-Man, Saturn Girl or Beast. And he picked the name when he was about 10, back when he was a supporting character in Doom Patrol and wore a mask suggesting his skin was purple (for secret ID purposes).

  • I'm with Jeff on Changeling. I liked it better, since he had grown up out of the "Beast Boy"* phase. I try not to get to hung up on the origins of words in character names. Hell there is a dude named Grunge, and that is a genre of music...

*Yet, I found it endearing when the LSH kept their kid names.
