NO. 1: DC COMICS
DEADMAN #1 (OF 6)
(W) W. Maxwell Prince (A/CA) Martin Morazzo
THE ALL-STAR CREATORS OF 2025'S HIT MINISERIES SUPERMAN: THE KRYPTONITE SPECTRUM (AND THE ONGOING HORROR ANTHOLOGY ICE CREAM MAN) ARE BACK AT DC COMICS TO LIFT YOUR SPIRITS!
The Deadman enters the Next Level! In the millisecond following his murder, the soul of shifty circus aerialist Boston Brand was commandeered by the goddess Rama Kushna, who deputized the erstwhile performer's ghost with a sacred spectral assignment: the Custodian of All Souls! Now Brand floats — begrudgingly —through this bluegreen purgatory we call Earth, upholding the Laws of Spiritual Math and protecting humanity from evil — even if they can't see or hear him. Open up to this new era of DC's most lively deceased superhero — the Deadman — in a story about life, death, and everything in between ... replete with paranormal activity, possessions, and a profusion of other poignant peculiarities.
I first started reading Deadman when I was 9 years old, and it didn't occur to me until much later that Boston Brand wasn't supposed to be a very nice guy before he died. So it wasn't just bad luck that he became Deadman, but a sort of penance. Which makes me wonder: How bad a guy was he supposed to be? Not so bad he can't be redeemed, apparently. Maybe that's Rama Kushna's cutoff.
JSA #20
(W) Jeff Lemire (A) Diego Olortegui (CA) Pete Woods
VENGEANCE IS UPON THE JSA! The Spectre has taken hold of the JSA with one mission: find a new host! But as the JSA fight their former ally, they need to split up and get to the bottom of what has become of the spirit of vengeance!
I enjoyed Geoff Johns' run on JSA, especially the effort he and David Goyer put in to unsnarl continuity. I'm not as big a fan of Lemire's take, and whatever enthusiasm I had has been muted by the decision to kill off Wildcat. There were four O.G. JSAers out of 15 that had a plausible excuse to be alive and active in the present. Now there are three. That's irreplaceable.
But Lemire is using Spectre in the current storyline, so I'm still on board. Even if I don't quite understand the Ghostly Guardian's current status quo. He's certainly not Jim Corrigan, who was dead-dead last I heard, but maybe he's coming back. I guess I'll find out.
Just don't kill any more 80-something-old characters, Lemire!
And where is Judy Flash?

SUPERGIRL SURVIVE #1 (OF 6)
(W) Ethan Parker, Griffin Sheridan (A/CA) Rod Reis
ETHAN PARKER, GRIFFIN SHERIDAN, AND ROD REIS TAKE SUPERGIRL ON A NEW ELSEWORLDS JOURNEY!
ara Zor-El lives a life of small problems. How are you supposed to hold a floppy little baby like her new cousin Kal? Who should she ask to the spring formal? And when will her father and her uncle Jor-El stop squabbling? But the planet Krypton has big problems ... like the militaristic dictator Zod ruthlessly crushing dissent and threatening to unleash the planet's most dangerous weapons on the opposition. And when things boil over and Krypton begins to burn, Kara and her infant cousin will find themselves trapped together in a prototype rocket, struggling to survive in a hostile universe that doesn't care if they live or die ... and which might prefer the latter! Breakout writers Ethan Parker and Griffin Sheridan (Eisner Award nominee Kill Your Darlings) join visionary artist Rod Reis (New Mutants) to tell the story of teenage Kara and infant Kal, sent on their journey through the stars together, not apart ... that is, as long as Kara can keep him alive!
This one will also look nice next to the Superman Elseworlds collection, once it's collected.

- A Global Celebration of the Maiden of Might
Supergirl has long stood as one of DC’s most inspiring Super Heroes, a symbol of hope, resilience, and compassion. In this new anthology, creators from around the world explore how Kara Zor-El’s story resonates across borders and cultures, and how her mission to protect her adopted home takes on new meaning when viewed through a global lens.
“Supergirl, the last daughter of Krypton, has found her adoptive world daunting at times, struggling to find her place in it,” reads the official description. “So what better way to learn about her new home than to travel the globe and discover its many wonders — and save some lives in the process, of course! Behold the Maiden of Might as 15 countries tell tales that highlight what makes Supergirl one of the most inspiring and powerful DC Super Heroes of all.”
Each chapter offers a standalone story rooted in the country that created it, from street-level heroics to sweeping, mythic adventures. Together, they form a portrait of Supergirl that is both universal and deeply personal.
Supergirl: The World is a 184-page hardcover priced at $24.99 US. The anthology will be published simultaneously across participating regions, allowing fans around the world to experience the collection together on release day.
I got the first one of these — Batman: The World — and decided I didn't care for the format, which is a book of pin-ups with no story. But the art was undeniably eclectic and/or gorgeous. So if you're just into cool art, you may enjoy it.

For 50 years, Marvel Comics has dared to ask WHAT IF?, putting bold twists on major Marvel moments and opening the floodgates to the multiverse! To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original What If? series, Marvel will publish eight all-new WHAT IF…? one-shots this summer. Crafted by some of today’s biggest talents, the new one-shots shake the foundations of every corner of the Marvel mythos beginning with startling stories starring the X-Men and Thor and continuing with epic reimaginings of pivotal storylines like Secret Wars and Kraven’s Last Hunt!

WHAT IF...CYCLOPS HAD STAYED WITH MADELYNE PRYOR?
Imagine a world where Madelyne Pryor, the Goblin Queen, had survived the Inferno. What would have happened if Cyclops had saved her soul. What would have happened if he and Maddie had raised their son, Nathan Summers? What would that world look like? And why would that be the most terrible thing to happen to mutantdom and Earth itself?
I assume that if he stayed he'd be the eventual Goblin Queen's servant. But to tell you the truth, I try not to think about this era too much. They wrote Scott Summers as a man who would abandon his wife and child, just for the off-panel reason of uniting the five original X-Men in the first X-Factor series. It stunk then, and it stinks now.
However, that costume is "my" Cyclops, so I always enjoy seeing it.

The hit animated series X-Men ’97 returns this summer on Disney+, and once more, comic readers will be able to dive right into the action at their local comic shop with X-MEN ’97: SEASON TWO, an official prelude comic series! The five-issue limited series reunites writer Steve Foxe and artist Salva Espin who previously collaborated on the X-Men ’97 prelude comic series for Season One.
X-MEN ‘97: SEASON TWO will lead directly from the end of the acclaimed first season to the start of the upcoming season two, setting the stage for the time-sprawling saga that awaits viewers, exploring the season’s biggest plot threads, and spotlighting the major new characters—and teams—joining the cast.
Extinction-day has come and gone, and your favorite X-Men are lost in time! Spinning out of Marvel Animation’s X-Men ’97 series, follow the X-Men left behind in a world that hunts and hates mutantkind! Can they survive? And just where — or when — are the X-Men now?! No X-Men ‘97 fan can miss this one!
“I feel exceptionally grateful that Salva Espin, Matt Milla, and I get to tell more stories fleshing out the world of X-Men ‘97!” Foxe shared. “Everyone who watched Season One knows the team left us one heck of an era-spanning cliffhanger, and our prequel for Season Two doesn’t take any cheats or shortcuts around that wild status quo.”
“We got to work closely with the series team to make sure this comic is a vital, additive experience for our mutants — what’s left of the X-Men, anyway …” he continued.
I never watched this TV show, but I'm glad it's back for those who did, and that there's a companion comic book.

Joshua Williamson and Carmen Carnero’s new run of IRON MAN is a certified hit! The debut issue arrived last month to critical acclaim and will return next month with a much-demanded second printing. Today, fans can peek ahead with the reveal of issue six, on sale in May. Featuring art by guest artist Juann Cabal, the issue will guest star Spider-Man and Norman Osborn.
Praised for delivering a back-to-basics approach while also planting seeds for a riveting future, IRON MAN #1 ended with a startling cliffhanger. As Tony raced to confront A.I.M. for stolen tech, Captain America hosted an eclectic group, warning them to keep a watchful eye on Tony’s recent actions. Among the familiar faces were fellow heroes like Captain Marvel, lifelong best friends like War Machine, and former adversary Norman Osborn!
Norman and Tony’s bitter rivalry defined Marvel’s “Dark Reign” era, where Norman led the Dark Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. as Iron Patriot. Now, he struggles to find redemption in the pages of Joe Kelly, John Romita Jr., and Pepe Larraz’s Amazing Spider-Man. Can Spider-Man prevent Norman’s old feud from resurfacing or will Tony cause Norman to prematurely slip back to his old ways? In addition to Ryan Stegman’s main cover, IRON MAN #6 will feature stunning variant covers, including a special foil cover by Salvador Larroca, an homage to Larroca’s Invincible Iron Man (2008) #7 cover during his run on the title with Matt Fraction, and the latest in Todd Nauck’s “Ironic” series spotlighting the Iron Patriot armor, which makes a comeback in the story.
SPIDER-MAN MUST SAVE NORMAN OSBORN … FROM IRON MAN?!
Tony Stark and Norman Osborn have history. They’ve known each other longer than you might know. And when the Iron Patriot armor is stolen, all signs point toward the former Green Goblin. Only problem is Iron Man has just one, little, tiny thing standing in his way to take down Norman: the AMAZING, SPECTACULAR, FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN!
"The response to our new Iron Man series has been tremendous and inspiring,” Williamson shared. “It's great to see Marvel readers embrace our take on the Armored Avenger. And we're just getting started. IRON MAN #6 is the first of our ‘Iron Man Team-up’ issues and follows up on the Norman Osborn tease from the first issue's cover.”
“I've always been fascinated by the rivalry between Tony and Norman and how in a different world they could have been allies or maybe even friends,” he continued. “But Tony doesn't trust that Norman has turned to the side of the angels, which puts them into conflict. With Spider-Man caught in the middle. This is my first time writing the wallcrawler and it's been a dream come true. But it's not all fun and games. ... This issue will be key for the future of Iron Man!"
I have no idea why I got a press reelase on a random issue of Iron Man. It's not like I get one about every title guest-starring Spider-Man. Maybe this is the start of Norman Osborn being an Iron Man villain.

Ten years ago, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story introduced the group of unlikely heroes who stole the plans to the original Death Star and set the stage for the Rebellion’s greatest victory. Announced earlier today at io9, Marvel Comics will celebrate the anniversary of the beloved film by publishing five one-shots spotlighting its key characters, starting in May with Cassian Andor, who went on to headline the film’s Emmy and Peabody Award-winning Disney+ prequel series, Andor. Returning to the grit and glory of a Rebellion on the brink of war, the all-new stories will be set just prior to the events of the film, revealing never-before-told back stories and adventures from this pivotal era.
“From the moment the first images of Cassian, Jyn, Saw, Baze, and Chirrut were revealed fans have wanted to know more about the brave outsiders who risked everything to help combat the Galactic Empire and its terrifying superweapon, and to learn more about what Vader was doing before A New Hope,” Lucasfilm Senior Editor Robert Simpson told io9. “We always knew the end of Rogue One wouldn't be the end of their stories, and we're so excited for fans to get these glimpses into their pasts."
“This has been one of the most incredible Star Wars anniversary projects to work on!” Editor Mark Paniccia shared. “Just look at this roster of talent and these amazing covers by David Marquez! If you can't get enough of these intriguing and memorable characters, this is for you! An absolute must for fans of Rogue One and Andor!”
A PRISONER OF THE EMPIRE. A CHANCE AT HOPE.
On the toxic Wobani fields, Jyn Erso’s brutal routine shatters when an unlikely crew begs the infamous slicer “Liana Hallik” to help pull off an impossible escape. Can Jyn outwit Imperial security droids, tower cannons and incinerators long enough to crack the code — and keep a frightened young prisoner alive? Will a leap of faith heal old scars from Galen, Lyra, and Saw… or will Wobani claim Jyn’s future before the Rebellion ever can?
They're going to milk every dollar they can out of Andor, aren't they?

Who are The Unbelievables? Across the world, people with remarkable—and sometimes inconceivable—abilities and beginnings, all try to hide behind ordinary lives. A time-traveling family lost in the present. Two teenagers destined to rule Heaven and Hell. A trillionaire kid chasing the one thing money can’t buy. And many, many more—each on a personal and exciting odyssey shaped by the impossible. What binds them isn’t their secrets, but the bonds they forge—love, friendship, and sacrifice—as dangerous forces rise to exploit what the world will come to know as…THE UNBELIEVABLES.
I do read some of the Ghost Machine books, but not all of them.
SAGA DLX ED VOL 4 HC
The highly anticipated Saga Book Four deluxe hardcover edition cover art by Fiona Staples was revealed last weekend during the Brian K. Vaughan Spotlight panel at San Diego Comic-Con. This stunning collected edition of the bestselling, multiple Eisner award winning series by Vaughan and Staples is set to hit shelves in April 2026 from Image Comics.
The striking Saga Book Four cover art conveys the teenage attitude of main character Hazel.
“For the last thirteen years, we’ve been watching Hazel grow up in more or less in ‘real time,’ both in the pages of our ongoing series, and most memorably on Fiona Staples’ gorgeous original covers for our collections," said Vaughan. "Caught in the middle of an endless war between the planet of Landfall and its moon Wreath, Hazel is the only person in the universe who’s inherited both wings and horns from these two worlds, and I love how Fiona’s latest cover captures our culturally conflicted adolescent. This upcoming fourth Deluxe Hardcover is my favorite yet, and I can’t wait for readers to see what Fiona and I have been cooking up for the next stage of life for Hazel and her found family.”
After the most shocking tragedy of her young life, Hazel and her star-crossed family embark on an emotional new adventure, one that takes them to a few unexpected corners of the universe. Collecting Saga issues #55-72—including the storyline that won the title’s second Hugo Award—this deluxe edition features exclusive extras, including a gallery of never-before-seen Saga artwork from some of Staples’ and Vaughan’s favorite creators.
Saga is a genre-blending, sci-fi/fantasy space opera about star-crossed lovers from enemy worlds. An epic romantasy featuring a diverse and eclectic cast of memorable characters, Saga follows new parents Marko and Alana as they risk everything to raise their child amidst a never-ending galactic war.
Saga has sold nearly 10 million copies to date across single issue, trade paperback, compendium, hardcover, and digital editions and has been translated into 20 languages. The series also boasts multiple Eisner Awards, Harvey Awards, a Hugo Award, British Fantasy Award, Goodreads Choice Award, Shuster Award, Inkwell Award, Ringo Award, and more. It has been featured in such mainstream media outlets as TIME, Entertainment Weekly, The Atlantic, NPR, and more. The series has become a pop culture phenomenon and has been immortalized with references and easter eggs appearing in such popular TV shows as Supernatural, The Big Bang Theory, The Simpsons, and even a Taco Bell commercial featuring cosplay of Marko.

Family or freedom? Discover the astonishing history of the mass evacuation of Cuban children, leaving communism — and their loved ones — behind.
We Are Pan is based on the true story of Operation Pedro Pan, a joint effort between the U.S. government and the Catholic Welfare Bureau to evacuate 14,000 children from Cuba to the U.S. between 1960 and 1962. With the rise of communism following Fidel Castro’s revolution, parents feared for their children's future and through a secret operation, secured passage for their children to America. These children (later referred to as “Pedro Pans”) would be distributed across the U.S., mostly living in foster homes. In many cases, these children never saw their families again, and their lives would be changed forever. This is their story. — a 184-page full-color graphic novel (6" x 9")
I have never heard this particular bit of history. I'll have to look it up, then decide if I want to sample the book.

The first authorized celebration of the one and only King of Comics and his groundbreaking work—now revised and expanded. Introduction by Neil Gaiman, featuring an exclusive, original Alex Ross "Jack Kirby" poster on underside of fold-out cover. Filled with stunning artwork, this gloriously illustrated biography of comics pioneer Jack Kirby by an artist who worked closely with him is “a treasure."“A landmark work, this is essential reading for comics fans and those who want to better understand the history of the comics medium — or those who just want to enjoy Kirby’s incredible artwork.” —Publishers WeeklyJack Kirby played a major role in shaping the superhero genre, not only through his innovative, dynamic artwork but through collaborating with Stan Lee to create classic Marvel characters like the Fantastic Four, the Hulk and the X-Men.As a teenager, future television and comics writer Mark Evanier became an assistant to Kirby. Evanier has now written this magnificently illustrated biography of his mentor. Evanier tells Kirby’s life story in an informal, entertaining manner and brings Kirby’s personality vividly alive: a child of the Great Depression, a creative visionary who struggled most of his life to support his family. The stunning artwork in this book, taken from private collections, makes the case for Kirby’s genius.
This is a great story, by a great writer who happened to be there. And it's an answer to every Stan Lee hater. As Evanier says, it took both of them to do it.
SPIDER-MAN PANEL BY PANEL HC: Just like with the Fantastic Four #1 book, I don't think Silver Age comics can hold up under this sort of granular scrutiny. They're great stories, and I love them, but they aren't exactly Finnegan's Wake.

The first appearance of the Hobgoblin and they're emphasizing the Juggernaut?
But will it come with a free tattoo?
JSA #20
I recently started reading this title on DC Ultra. I probably would have started with Lemire’s 1999 run, but I goofed. Whenever I catch up with this run I’ll go back to the earlier run. I like stories that include some of the Infinity Inc characters with some of the original JSA. I haven’t reached the death of Wildcat yet, but how many times have the original JSA characters been killed? I read it with the by-panel option, which makes it easier to read and still includes images of entire pages.
SAGA DLX ED VOL 4 HC
I got excited until I realized that this is a HC collection of stories I already have in TPB form. The TPB books are very nice. I’ll stick with them. It’s over a year since the last one. I hope Vaughn and Staples continue their excellent title soon.
I haven't read Saga in individual issues or in TPB -- this is the way I'm reading it. So I'm pretty chuffed!
