    • Ah, okay, cool! I should have recognized Oberon, but he was such a nonentity in the larger storyline -- and he was just basically a guy in a cloak -- that he slipped my mind.

I can see why you call Mister Sneeryface Mister Sneeryface now.

I used to be a MSTie, but I fell off a long while ago. I still like it when I see it, but I don't watch it regularly anymore.

  • I've seen episode 972 now, and the circle of people who know about Parallel Time is growing: Barnabas, Julia, and now Willie and Professor Stokes. (Willie's a famous author in PT!) Plus, Jeb is haunted by the wiggly shadow puppet, who for all the world looks like one of those inflatable guys who advertises car dealerships. (Carolyn sees it too, at the end of the episode, presumably ending the marital strife cause by Jeb fleeing from place to place without explanation.)

    • And now I've seen episode 973, in which not a lot happens. A lot of futile pleading with Bruno, from both Jeb and Sabrina (remember her?). And the end, Sabrina's drawn a gun on Bruno. Also, Maggie came home to Collinwood.

But my favorite thing was Carolyn and Jeb holding the prop version of the wiggly shadow puppet. It's so in-your-face, like the producers are saying, "look, here's the thing we hold in front of the camera to make our allegedly terrifying special effect!"

    • I have successfully avoided the Blinovitch Limitation Effect, so on with my thoughts on 972 from 2012:

#972: The Life and Death of Barnabas Collins reveals that the Barnabas of parallel time married Josette and died in 1830. Elizabeth tells Stokes of Carolyn’s marriage to Jeb Hawkes and that she hasn’t heard from her since. Barnabas quizzes Stokes on his theory of parallel time, tells him everything about the room and what he saw there, shows him the book and takes him to the room (empty at the time).

The honeymoon is over (in more ways than one) for Carolyn and Jeb. They return to the carriage house, but Jeb is afraid to turn on the lights for fear of casting a shadow. He rejects Carolyn (to protect her) and locks her out for a time.

Cliffhanger: Carolyn sees the creature, too, and they both flee from it!

Barnabas Joke of the Day: Why does Barnabas fly around at night biting beautiful women on the neck? It’s a living.

    • "Blinovitch Limitation Effect"  - which forbids a Time Lord from crossing their own timestream, unless it's the Doctor having an anniversary special.

    • Yes, July 23, 2004 (Rob's post about 972) was the day I began my "strange and uncertain journey into the past." I've been trying to catch back up to the "present" for nearly three months now.

    • But my favorite thing was Carolyn and Jeb holding the prop version of the wiggly shadow puppet. It's so in-your-face, like the producers are saying, "look, here's the thing we hold in front of the camera to make our allegedly terrifying special effect!"

To be fair, the wiggly shadow puppet started out as a piece of construction paper being cut out by Angelique. this, I think, it that same piece of paper she used to initiate the curse. On a related note, our across-the-street neighbors two houses down have had their Hallowe'en decoration up for about a month now already. Among them is a garbage bag shaped like a corpse dangling from a noose tied to a tree limb. Yesterday I forgot to check the mail and walked out to the street later that night. The "corpse" is backlit by a driveway light and casts a long shadow into the street not unlike Dark shadows' "Wiggly Man." Spooky!

#973: Jeb and Carolyn discuss Jeb’s curse; Quentin and Sabrina discuss Chris’s curse. Jeb calls on Bruno to intercede on his behalf with Nicholas Blair. Bruno remeinds Jeb that he is already as good as dead. Maggie and Carolyn discuss marriage (in general). Carolyn even mentions Maggie and Barnabas getting married…? Quentin agrees to help Sabrina by accompanying her that evening to reason with Bruno, but Angelique’s spell kicks in and Quentin stands her up for a tryst with Maggie. Sabrina goes to confront Bruno by herself. At first she offers to pay him off to forget about Chris, but when he refuses, she puls out a gun.

Cliffhanger: “I’m going to kill you.”

Barnabas Joke of the Day: Barnabas knows that the best thing for tired blood is exercise. He just can’t figure out how to get his blood to exercise.

  • I've now seen through episode 976. We're still going through characters at an impressive clip, and Bruno -- after locking Carolyn in a room with a ripening werewold, Chris -- gets konked on the head by Roger, but then later confronts Carolyn in the woods, but is attacked by the werewolf and killed. Jeb's still scared of Wiggly Man, and tries to get Angelique to call it off. And Roger goes up to the East Wing room where another dimension is happening, and sees Bruno -- whom he'd just seen dead -- and then himself! Strange things are afoot, and I can't wait.

    • #976: Roger followed Carolyn, gets the drop on Bruno and knocks him unconscious. He takes Carolyn out of the room just before Chris transforms. The werewolf leaps out of the room through the window (his specialty) before Roger sees. Later, Bruno tries to kill Carolyn himself, but the werewolf appears and kills him.

Roger visits the parallel time room and sees “Bruno” (a composer in this reality) and “Elizabeth.” They discuss Quentin and his new bride’s impending return to Collinwood.

Cliffhanger: Roger sees “himself” in parallel time!

Barnabas Joke of the Day: What happens when Barnabas bites a Chinaman? He finds that he’s hungry again in about two hours.
