I've seen through episode 1143 now. Judah Zachery has taken over Gerard Styles, and he and Charles Dawson have lured a woman back to his place and killed her. Angelique has found out that Julia is from the future... and that Barnabas will be there, and she will too! She immediately sets about disrupting Julia's plans. And Julia goes to Roxanne's coffin, but she's too late (because Angelique made her sleep for a while)... and Roxanne is a vampire!
Roxanne also has a brother, Randall. I suspect we shouldn't get too attached.
Also, Carrie came back from Boston or wherever, and finally met her governess, Daphne... but has decided she has a big crush on Gerard. Which would be a problem regardless, but Gerard isn't Gerard anymore...
Oh, and Trask and Gerard have formed an alliance to figure out what Barnabas's deal is, and Desmond is mad at Gerard for horning in while he tries to make time with Daphne.
I remember when Lara Paker's first novel, Angelique's Descent, was released. It is Angelique's origin story, and I remember that Parker said at the time that nothing in the novel contradicted the TV show, only embellished it. I'm pretty sure she did remember, but chose to forget, "Miranda" in 1692. If so, she was wise to ignbore it because it makes absolutely no sense within the context of her overall character arc. Angelique's Descent, BTW, is worth reading if you're a Dark Shadows fan. There's an audio version, too, read by Parker herself. She does explain how/why Angelique, a native of Martinique, is so lily white. If I were ever to remake Dark Shadows on screen (yeah, right!), I'd simply cast someone of Creole heritage. (I'd also hew closer to to the original story of Jeremiah and Josette (before the introduction of Barnabas), but I digress...
1142 is the first (full) appearance of Charles Dawson (after the cliffhanger of 1141), and 1143 is the first time Samantha has been seen since 1132.
By now you've seen Quentin's "cross" ring. I don't know where they got the idea that it's a sign of the devil, but there is a church nearby that displays that exact cross outside. I meant to take a picture of it to post here before you got to this point, but I didn't get around to it. Perhaps before next time. That ring might make a fairly decent prop replica for fans of the show, but it also strikes me that someone should make a "Head of Judah Zachary" case and maybe a "Hand of Count Petofi" box.
...but Gerard isn't Gerard anymore.
I misremembered the scene in which JZ took possession of Gerard as being toward the end of the 1840 storyline, but in any case, I'm wondering if it was, indeed, the Ghost of Gerard Stiles who haunted Collinwood from 1970-1995, or whether it was actually the ghost of Judah Zachary. I'm sure how that would work, but 1840 Gerhard is a bit a a rogue, but he's not nearly as bad as "his" ghost.
I've seen through episode 1149 now. Julia had been hidden away by Angelique, but Lazlo gave the game away when he went to contront Barnabas after stealking Julia's ring. Barnabas is having Randall Drew ambush his sister Roxanne at her coffin with a cross... we'll see if that's successful.
Also, Daphne is Joanna's sister, and was planning to kill Quentin to avenge her -- but she hasn't been leaving the notes! And in a twist, there's been a new note from "Joanna" to Daphne, saying, essentially, that it's okay for her to move on and get together with Quentin.
Gerard (JZ) is planning to frame Quentin for witchcraft (with the help of Trask, who's currently in the thrall of Roxanne) and have him beheaded, but all Quentin wants is to build his time-travel staircase, no witches needed! One person Gerard has swayed is Daniel, who stood on the staircase and thought he was looking through time at Quentine killing Belle -- instead, it was an illusion of Gerard's.
Oh, and Tad is snippy about Hallie's crush on Gerard.
1145 marks the first actual appearance of the stairway (which looks remarkably like the stairway in Philip and Megan Todd's antique shop, now that I think of it). I can't remember where I first heard it, but one "neat idea" I like is that the stairway only works because it is made from "Leviathan" wood chopped from the trees near Collinwood. My own "neat idea" (which I've mentioned before) is to somehow link the "Stairway Through Time" with the time machine from "Evil of the Daleks." I had another idea about the playroom, too. I am now more firmly convinced than ever that the events we are witnessing in 1840 actually take place in an alternate 1840, and the stairway not only transcends time but "relative dimensions in space." The reason the playroom doesn't exist in 1970 is because it never did... in that reality. Of course, that still doesn't explain why Jeremiah Collins installed a stained glass transom above a closet, but perhps he had to change his plans for some reason.
1146 marks Gabriel's first appearance since 1130.

If Dark Shadows were remade today, Tad would have the crush on Gerard. Come to think of it, maybe that's why he's snippy.

Yeah, seems like it could definitely be the ghost of JZ in the 1970s, simply manifesting with Gerald's form.. but who knows?

Here is some more infomation about the MISS AMERICAN VAMPIRE contest if you're interested.
Oh, neat! That Sacheen Littlefeather connection is really wild.
Yeah, I thought that was kind of wild myself.
