  • Well said!  thumbup.gif

  • It strikes home that Marvel takes the gamble if the quality is there and DC/Warners would rather stick to basics, i.e. more Superman and Batman films.

P.S. How long, after the LAST (Christian Bale) Batman movie EVER, will it take for them to start it up again? I'm betting filming starts in 2013!

  • And why are these movies coming out four and five years apart? I know they're massive undertaking involving an army of technicians, special-effects people and stuntmen, but still ... !

  • I'd say its to do with the creative control they give Nolan. He wants to do other stuff betweentimes, but also he has to oversee every aspect of the Batman films. You can't rush quality. At least DC have learned that you need to give a great creator the space to make a great film. That didn't work so well with the last Superman movie, but then that Director was trying to follow someone else's vision.

Marvel too have gone for clever indie directors, in the main, rather than journeymen.

What was the CV of the guy who did Green Lantern? Not that it mattered when he had so much "input" from other parties...
  • Thor 2 is slated for 2013.

Captain America 2 is slated for 2014.

Thus Avengers 2, the earliest possible date, would be 2015 IF there is no Hulk 2, Iron Man 4 or even Black Widow: The Movie before that!

Though they did reveal that Ant-Man is coming up!

Sadly I've heard of no other DC movies, not even Green Lantern 2, but there is Arrow for TV.

  • Okay, I actually found myself feeling sorry for DC when I read that.

A couple of Bond movies (GoldenEye and Casino Royale), the two Antonio Banderas Zorro movies, and a few other odds and ends.

A coworker of mine said to me today that she just finished watching Thor, but she wasn't sure if she could see Avengers yet because she'd heard she needed to see "all the other" movies...then asked if Green Lantern was necessary.

Sometimes we forget that not everyone knows what we know... (And yes, I saved her from having to see Green Lantern.)

  • I have to disagree about Superman Returns. I just watched it again recently, and I thought it did a good job continuing from the first four films while being its own film at the same time. I was disappointed when I learned that the Superman film currently in production is a reboot.

    Bless her.

GoldenEye and Casino Royale were pretty good movies weren't they? But I guess the director is probably the type I meant when I said 'journeyman'. I heard that the director didn't really see GL as 'his' movie anyway.

Mark - Horseraces and all that, but you might be in the minority about Superman Returns. Glad you enjoyed it. I liked what the director set out to do anyway. I too have mucho respect and affection for the Reeve movies.

  • Just read the bit in the link.  Genius.
