Yeah, everything but the musical episodes sounds good to me. It they're done well I'll give them points for creativity, but I'd still prefer to avoid the whole concept.
It was only a matter of time. Melissa Benoist was on Glee for a few years and Grant Gustin was on it for seven episodes. Buffy the Vampire Slayer did a musical episode once (they were controlled by magic, IIRC). It wasn't as bad as it sounds.
There was also a musical episode of Batman: Brave & Bold with Neil Patrick Harris as the Music Master.

A few more things about Flash season 3:
Grey Damon (of Aquarius and the last season of Friday Night Lights) has been cast as Mirror Master (Sam Scudder), as has Caitlyn Snow's mom (Susan Walters of Vampire Diaries).
Also, Andrew Kreisberg promised Flash would get to Gorilla City for a two-parter this year.
