  • This is part of "Brightest Day." She's moving to a revived Birds of Prey, which is a core title of the storyline (so it will have the "Brightest Day" cover treatment). AFAIK, she's still be doing Secret Six, which is a delightful title.
  • Noooo ... say it isn't so! *sob*
  • I'm sorry to see her go... but will most likely follow her to Birds of Prey -- even though Ed Benes is doing the art.

Gail leaving Wonder Woman certainly makes it easier for me to *afford* BoP.
  • JMS has been announced as the new writer on Wonder Woman. I would define my response as curious. JMS isn't always at his best when working on someone else's characters. He seems to be better when he can create them (Rising Stars) or completely re-invision them (Supreme Power). However, he has also turned in some transformative runs- such as his early Spider-Man with JR JR and by most accounts, his work on Thor (which I haven't read). It will be interesting to see what we get.

ps. JMS will also be writing Superman.
  • Gail will also be writing a new Welcome to Tranquility mini, which I look forward to bunches.

Check out the Secret Headquarters (my store) website! It's a pretty lame website, but I did it myself, so tough noogies

Listen to WOXY.com, it's the future of rock-n-roll!

  • I am so glad that Birds of Prey is back with Gail. I only read one issue of her Wonder Woman run, but I look forward to reading it in trades. Based on past discussion in the "On the Chopping Block" thread, it sounds as if trades might be the best way to experience those stories anyway. I noticed several folks considering dropping Gail's Wonder Woman or dropping it outright. I am almost as excited by news of the Welcome to Tranquility mini. I was pretty sure we'd seen the last of that title.

JMS on Superman and Wonder Woman intrigues me, but I'll probably library tradewait those.
  • I'll be tradewaiting JMS's Superman and Wonder Woman -- I'm really curious what he'll bring to the table, but he seems to impress me more with large swathes of story than with single issues.
  • I decided to drop Wonder Woman with the last issue. I may now hang on for the rest of Simone's run.
  • I might give Wonder Woman a try for the first time, just to see what JMS does.

    And I might give Superman a re-try.

If you want to give Wonder Woman a try on a truly great run, check out Greg Rucka's work. The first few issues are collected in Wonder Woman: Down to Earth. I had never read Wonder Woman on a regular basis until Rucka's first issue hooked me. I read it all the way to the end of his run, which also ended that volume of the title.
