    On the other hand, today's Peanuts has the annual gag with Snoopy going over to Bill Mauldin's house to quaff a few root beers ...

    I blame his editors more than Jim Davis. It is a funny gag but it's hard not to make the comparison.

    And Snoopy was always a champion of veterans since WWI!! "Curse You, Red Baron!" (But not The Baron!)

    ...Late in Bill Maudlin's life , I guess in the very late Twentieth , he was in the news for a a sad occasion , when his son (Or grandson ?) , Bill Maudlin Jr. , died (along with his partner) in a house fire .

      I think I once tried to find this story on the Web again more recently but could not .
