King Kirby - a "live theater motion comic" by Crystal Skillman and Fred Van Lente, directed by Doak Rapp.

Hey, Travis... this is going to be playing at the Cox Playhouse in Plano from July 4-12. Tracy and I are thinking about going to see it. Let us know if you would like to join us.

  • That was a memorable and enjoyable way to spend the Fourth of July: meeting up with a friend to see a play about the co-creator of Captain America. It was a small theater, but almost every seat was full. I was a bit disappointed in the "interactive projection" (two screens) in that I was expecting original art (which is protected by copyright, I guess). The stage was sparse, but the story hit every major beat one would expect.

  • Yeah, it was pretty cool. I had a good time. Like I was telling Jeff and Tracy I think this is the first play I've attended since elementary school. In addition to Jeff and Tracy. I saw 4 other people I knew at play, which was pretty surreal.

  • Nice! I remember interviewing Crystal and Fred about it when it was playing in New York a few years back, but I wasn't able to score a ticket to actually see the dang thing!

IIRC, they made it into a podcast / radio drama series during the pandemic. I really enjoyed it.
