5 Deadpool collections in one month??? All of the Thor collections I can understand ... the DVD probably gets released in October or November ..... but Deadpool? Why?
I'm intrigued by the Power Man & Iron Fist trade. Anyone read the mini? What did you think?
I'll probably get the Claremont/Byrne MTU trade. I've read some of them, and you can get those issues and more in Essential MTU, but that's a nice collection to have in color under one roof.
I highly recommend the Hobgoblin trade. Roger Stern wrote most of them, and it's great Spidey. I have all of the originals - well, ASM 238 and 239 reprinted in Marvel Tales - but I don't have Peter Parker 85. Hmmm, maybe I'll get the trade and trade in the originals.
Seems like every month Marvel releases a collection or two which makes me raise my eyebrows. Spider-Man: Torment by Todd MacFarlane, and in hardcover yet? A Grant Morrison New X-Men trade? How many times were these storylines already collected? My advice is to read the Morrison X-Men trades from the beginning, and don't waste your money on the Torment hardcover. You can probably get the originals for a dollar each - or cheaper - from your LCS or ebay. They're historical curiosities, nothing more, hardly deserving of a hardcover collection.
OK, I'm repeating myself, but .... 5 Deadpool trades in one month? Seriously?
Those Claremont/Byrne Team-ups were a real high point in comics of their time. Are they in the Essentials already? I must get caught up.
Regarding the new Power Man, he gets a great write-up in this Comics Alliance column. Regarding how well the writer has captured the subtle details in portraying a minority character, David Brothers says this:
Apparently Mr Brothers is pretty well qualified to make that statement, which tells me that some care and attention to detail were put into those recent Power Man and Iron Fist comics by Van Lente.
The article is a good one, looking positively at what Marvel and DC has got right over the years in regard to representation of minorities in their comics.
And yeah, the appeal of Deadpool completely escapes me too. It looks like their is a whole sub-industry devoted to him, as with Spider-Man, the X-Men and the Avengers!

David Brothers' enthusiasm for the new Power Man is all I need ... that trade went from a maybe to a definite buy for me.

Anyway, I'm psyched to see the Austen stories continue along with classic characters like John Carter and the Oz gang in Marvel form.
