Okay, just read a 1993 Robin annual by Chuck Dixon (even after reading it, I have no idea who this Robin is- Dick? Jason? Someone else?) and Marvel Team Up #9 (2005)  and found them both to be well-written and a lot of fun. For those who know them, did Dixon handle the Robin series at this time and is it woth reading? What about this incarnation of Marvel Team-Up? There's a big convoluted story in the latter that seems interesting and is likely self-contained in this title, and I  may pursue it if other members of the LoSpH recommend it.

  • As I recall, Robin got three tryout miniseries before the long-running ongoing series, and the annual you speak of, and all of them were written by Chuck Dixon. I'm 99.99% certain that the Robin in that annual must have been Tim Drake. Dick Grayson's Robin solo stories were in the '50s, and nobody ever wanted a Jason Todd Robin series.
  • Yes, the 1993 Robin Annual features TIm Drake.

I read the 1997 Marvel Team-Up (11 issues) but not the 2004 one (25 issues).* Sorry, can't help ya there.

*Except issue #14 by Robert Kirkman featuring Invincible.

  • Oh yeah, I forgot about Tim Drake. It must be him.
  • I didn't read it but www.comics.org lists the story as having begun in issue # 7 and wrapping up in issue # 10
  • The 2005 team-up series is probably worth a read.  It uses mainly original or little used characters which is a big plus for a reader, but not obvously for the 'market'.  We talked about it relative to the Secret Invasion issues of Avengers Initiative.
  • I remember there were a couple of Robin annuals before there was the ongoing series. For some reason I liked the fact that they weren't called "specials" or "one-shots", but just part of the annual series, even though there wasn't a monthly.

All 25 issues were by Kirkman, Jeff. As to the bigger question, overall I enjoyed Kirkman's Marvel Team-Up. It wasn't consistently great — although I can no longer tell you chapter and verse, there was one issue (that revealed the origin of the big bad) that I felt particularly missed, and I think it was the last main story arc that featured an original character of Kirkman's called Freedom Ring that left me kind of "meh" — but I never regretted buying it. The "League of Losers" story arc was a particular favorite of mine from that run, and actively tying it in to Invincible continuity from the time was a cool move, I thought.
