I was flipping through some Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe and noticed this one. Would it surprise anyone that a big percentage of the "deceased" are walking around today? Let's see:

Bucky: once the Holy Grail of Dead Heroes, now the new, slightly ignored Captain America.

Cypher: don't know the specifics, but he's in X-Men.

Hawkeye: IIRC, he just popped out of time!

Kraven the Hunter: the most unlikely "back alive" villain.

Mockingbird: was never really dead or was she?

Harry Osborn: a gift of "Brand New Day"!

Swordsman: a gift of Chaos War!

Thor: like he was going to stay dead!

Vision: version 2.0 is out there but the original could be back.

Yellowjacket II: also from Chaos War.

Then there are those I'm not sure of like Captain Mar-Vell, Magik, Odin and Thunderstrike.

Plus the Phoenix could rise any day now!

  • Kraven the Hunter is alive?

I know I'm going to regret hearing the answer, but ask I must: What are you talking about?

  • Kraven was brought back to life by his (estranged?) family using a mystical rite that required the sacrificial murder of Peter Parker. Peter then faught off the Kravinoff Family, who had kidnapped all of the spider-themed heroes including Madame Web. Peter lost the battle with the Kravinoffs, until EEEEvil Spider-clone Kaine switched places with Peter at the last moment, and sacrificed himself to save Peter.

Kraven and his daughter are the sole surviving members of their clan now, IIRC, and Kraven is training her to be the next "Hunter."

It was actually quite entertaining, as have all the Amazing Spider-Man comics form the last year or so.

  • Back in 1982, my good friend went to see Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan with a date. (Uh, do I really need to post a SPOILER for this one?) She was a fan and he wasn't. He told me later that, on the way out of the theatre his date lamented, "Spock can't stay dead!" He got such a kick out of her saying that that I didn't even bother explaining to him that she was right to be skeptical.
  • I've been reading a lot of Oz books with Action Lad lately.  At least in Oz, you're not only really dead, you're really most sincerely dead.
  • Thanks, Dagwan. I know I shouldn't have been surprised that something as simple as blowing your own head off with a shotgun wouldn't be enough to kill somebody good and dead ...
  • I'm pretty sure Thunderstrike is back as well and starring in his own mini-series.
  • Dagwan, that was a good explanation of last year's Kraven saga. And you're right, that was a very good story.
  • I'm pretty sure Thunderstrike is back as well and starring in his own mini-series.

Actually [SPOILER], that's Eric Masterson's son Kevin (who transforms into his father body).
  • If I actually cared about Thunderstrike, I'd ask what happened to him, too ...

At least The Wasp is still dead ... this month.

  • Odin's back in Thor.

Wasp may be back in Avengers Academy, but I think it may not take.  I get the impression that dramatically speaking she hasn't been gone long enough yet to merit a return story.
