More CrossGen Coming

I didn't like Route 666 the first time around so I'll likely pass on that one. I did like Mystic. It wasn't in my top five but I did like it. I'll certainly try the new version.

I'm hoping that these all do well. Perhaps then we can see the returns of Sojourn, Way of the Rat, El Cazador, and Scion. (Those four plus Ruse were my top five CrossGen favorites.)

For me, the appeal of Route 666 was Karl Moline's art. Not that Dustin Nguyen isn't AMAZING, mind you. And I'm relatively apathetic about Aguirre-Sacasa's writing, so overall I'll give this one a "meh."

On the other hand, I really like the sound of that Mystic pairing, Wilson's Superman fill-ins notwithstanding. I haven't really seen any of David Lopez's work since the DC run of Fallen Angel (I still really wish he had gone with the book to IDW), and occasionally think that I'd really like to see more from him.

For me, Aguirre-Sacasa's best work has been on Nightcrawler, who he wrote as a supernatural noir detective, and on his adaptation of The Stand. So a horror book like Route 666 might be right up his alley. I'm more interested in RAS on Route 666 than I would have been on Iron Man or X-Factor.

Cav, El Cazador makes an appearance in this week's Sigil #1. I don't know how long it'll be there, but it's at least one more issue.

Given her work on Cairo and Air, I'd think G. Willow Wilson would be perfect for Route 666. I'll try it and Mystic regardless, though. Like Cavalier said, I'd like to see them all do well, for a variety of reasons.

Sigil's a terrific start to the line. I'd actually forgotten (I'm so embarrassed!) which title Sigil originally was. I was thinking of Mystic. The new Sigil title has little to do with the original but that's OK with me. They might surprise us and bring in elements of that later.

I really didn't have much interest in the Sigil series, but I got a free copy from my shop, and I thought it was pretty good. I dunno if I'll get the rest of the series or pick up the trade. I do plan on reading the rest of it though.

The new Ruse #1 did not disappoint. It's not like slipping on a favorite pair of old shoes. It's more like buying a brand new pair of the exact same shoes. Everything fits but it isn't quite the same.

The issue does not pick up where the previous series left off. It's not even clear if it is exactly the same world. In the original Ruse, there were fantastic elements such as living gargoyles. There's no sign of that here. At least, not yet.

The mystery elements were engaging and the action's exciting. Simon and Emma are a terrific pair of characters. I'm so glad this is back.
