  • I started watching Homicide: Life on the Street some time in its early seasons. As a matter of fact, I only began watching Law & Order after seeing a crossover with it. I always enjoyed Richard Belzer. I first saw him in the movie The Groove Tube (1974), a decidedly risqué satire of TV, which I highly recommend. As I understand it, he played the same character on more shows than anybody else, ever!

  • Per Wikipedia, Richard Belzer played Detective Munch on:

    • Homicide: Life on the Street
    • The X-Files
    • The Beat
    • Law & Order: Trial by Jury
    • Arrested Development
    • The Wire
    • 30 Rock
    • Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
    • Jimmy Kimmel Live!
    • Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

and, although it wasn't Richard Belzer's voice, Munch appeared on Sesame Street ("The Missing M"):

  • I actually remember Richard Belzer from before his turn on Homicide: Life on the Street, when he was a full-time stand-up comic. I remember him as one of the cast members on Thicke of the Night -- one of the many ill-fated attempts to take on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.

One night, Belzer did a bit about how a wedding singer would do "Satisfaction," which he demonstrated, as opposed to how Mick Jagger would do it -- which he also demonstrated. He was the first to describe Jagger's performance as "like a rooster on acid."
