Okay, a moment of weakness just prompted me to order the Solo series hardback, put out by DC, from Instocktrades.com.

For those unfamiliar with the premise, each on of the twelve issues featured work by one artist, and they were pretty much given no rules except that one of the stories must feature a DC character in it. They ran with it as they pleased. These artists were: Tim Sale, Richard Corben, Paul Pope, Howard Chaykin, Darwyn Cooke, Jordi Bernet, Mike Allred, Scott Hampton, Teddy Kristiansen, Damion Scott, Sergio Aragones, and Brendan McCarthy. It's also been said that Walter Simonson's issue was eventually transformed into his hardback original The Judas Coin.

Here's my question: Which living creator/s do you wish could do an issue of a revived version of this title?

  • Let's see...

    Either of the Hernandez Brothers

    Colleen Coover

    Adam Warren

    Alan Davis

    Todd Nauck

  • Geoff Darrow

    Jason Pearson

    Keith Giffen

    Matt Wagner

    Michael Golden

    Jock

    Frank Quitely

    Gabriel Ba/Fabio Moon

  • A big YES to the Hernandezes (especially Jaime), Frank Quitely, and Gabriel Ba/Fabio Moon (separately or together). Also Bill Sienkiewicz, Eddie Campbell, Colleen Doran, Duncan Fegredo, Jill Thompson, Sean Phillips, and Becky Cloonan. Just for starters.

  • Great suggestions above, but would really love to see Quitely or Campbell issues.

JH Williams III might do some interesting stuff.

John McCrea would no doubt push the borders of good taste, but a brilliant cartoonist.

  • Steve Rude

    Lee Weeks

    Paul Gulacy

    Steve Erwin

    Stuart Immonen

    John Paul Leon

  • Travis, don't take this wrong, but you wrote about Kevin O'Neill's art and how you don't enjoy it in another thread. That actually made me realize that Kevin O'Neill is someone whose work I'd love to see on a Solo issue!

  • Yes!  Kevin O'Neill!

Don't think Travis was hating on O'Neill, merely saying that his work shared much with Liefield's work whilst pondering the unfairness of O'Neill being hailed as a unique visionary, whereas Liefield is laughed out of town as an immature dabbler who never worked on his craft in any way.

  • More of this sort of thing!

  • Oh no, I wasn't saying he was hating on O'Neill. I was just making reference to where he said his main problem with Marshal Law was the art.

I totally get that we all have different tastes. I just didn't want Travis thinking I was simply being contrary by saying I wanted a Solo issue done by O'Neill! (Because I totally do!)
  • I think it's safe to say that it may take a little time to appreciate O'Neill's work.

    Can't believe no one mentioned:

    Jerry Ordway

    Alex Ross

    Steve Lightle

    Humberto Ramos

    John Romita (Sr and Jr)

John Bryne (one last Superman story)
