Today, from In Stock Trades, I received a box containing Doug Moench and Kelley Jones's Batman. This was like a huge dream come true for me. Next thing they'll tell me, they will publish Batman: Alan Grant and Norm Breyfogle Vol. 1.

  • Nice! The last box I got from them (just last week!) had the Stray Bullets Uber Alles collection, plus a Usagi Yojimbo volume and a compilation of all of the Alan Moore-written "Future Shocks" for 2000 AD.

  • Funny--great minds think alike. This box also contained Stray Bullets Uber Alles. I had to go for the $50 worth to get the free shipping, you know.

  • My last little brown box from IST, from a couple of weeks ago, cashed in on February's HUGE discount on paperback Masterworks.  I've got the better part of a year's supply of presents/rewards for Action Lad.

    I love little brown boxes!

  • Surely Action Lad is now Action Pre-Teen, isn't he? Could he be even Action Teen now? My how they grow up.

  • Action 9-Year-Old.  It hasn't been that long!

Just in the past 2 weeks, I've introduced him to Svengoolie, the Adam West Batman and Calvin & Hobbes -- all of which he pronounced "Awesome."  (Realizing he'd never seen C&H was a real "Doh!" moment for me.)

  • Ah. I guess so much other change has happened in my life that I am speeding up everyone else's life accordingly. Glad to know that it's all for naught. It's actually a relief to have it "slowed down" instead of sped up in at least this case.

And man, I gave my Calvin and Hobbes's to a kid from my class last year during my big end of the year clean out. It was worth it when I read the letters from both him and his mom.

  • I received one today containing a one-two punch from Dark Horse. I bought Catalyst Comix from Joe Casey, with art by Dan McDaid, Paul Maybury, and Ulises Farinas. It looks to be an alternative take on the old Dark Horse Heroes Catalyst: Agents of Change. It's a handsome slab of a paperback comic, nice and heavy. It also looks like it's full of comicky goodness. You know with Joe Casey at the helm, it's bound to be pretty crazy. I'm looking forward to his Captain Victory coming up from Dynamite.

The second thing in that little brown box was Robocop Vs. Terminator. Neither of these properties is my cup of tea, but listen to the creative team: Frank Miller and Walter Simonson. Seriously. Can't wait to read this one. I don't agree with Miller's politics, but his writing is pretty darn good. Can't wait to rip into this one.

  • Oh, the $50 for free shipping gambit. I just got my first In Stock Trades box in a year (I've been cutting back). Mine had:

HACK SLASH OMNIBUS TP VOL 02, SPACEMAN DELUXE EDITION HC, CRIMINAL MACABRE FINAL NIGHT 30 DAYS OF NIGHT CROSSOVER TP,and 100 BULLETS BROTHER LONO TP. I'm not even sure which one(s) were free shipping "extras," but my wife was not amused.

  • Haha... I decided to forgo the $50 thing with these two, telling myself that even with paying the shipping cost, it was still a steeper cut than Amazon Prime would have given me.

I thought Catalyst Comix was crazy good. In the typical non-typical Joe Casey way. Pretty dense series. I thought it was really good, and I'd love to hear what you think about it when you get done.
