I came across a reference to "The Day After Doomsday," which was apparently a series that ran in Weird War Tales and other comics in the 1970s. Does anyone know anything about this series - premise, creators, etc.? Was it tied into any other existing series like Kamandi, Atomic Knights, Hercules Unbound or even Hex?
Thanks for any information. you can provide. I just recently re-read my Atomic Knights, Kamandi and Hercules Unbound comics and when I saw the reference to this series I got curious.

Life after some catastrophe is a common theme in comics, with Jack Kirby's Kamandi and Planet of the Apes being prime examples.
I know Charlton had a brief series called Doomsday +1 with a similar theme. It originally ran six issues between 1975/6, before moving to Charlton Bullseye for two issues. 1-6 was reprinted in 7-12 in 1978, which is where I first encountered it. But all are hard to find in the back issue market because of it being some of John Byrne's earliest work.
I hope someday someone reprints it, because I don't have all of 7-12, let alone have yet to read the Bullseye stories.
I know the above is not what you were looking for, but at least now it gives you another reference within that genre to look for.
I know that was an article/checklist in an issue of Amazing Heroes. I will try to find it.
I do remember one tale of a Boy Scout wandering around, lonely, wanting a pet again and running off to the zoo to find a monkey! And he does! *shudder*

I'm about to do my good deed for the day, so pay attention. ;)
Fantagraphics reprinted the entire series as Doomsday Squad #1-7. The entire series is available from Mile High Comics @ $1.75 in near mint (except for #6 inexplicably selling for $4.60 ($3.50 for fine)). Furthermore, the codeword "THREEWEEKS" will deduct 40% from your order. (I don't know how much longer that codeword is going to be in effect, so don't delay.) The series is printed on mando paper stock and will look better than your originals.

Tell 'em Groucho Jeff of Earth-J sent ya!
Luckily I found my Amazing Heroes index, so I dug out #85 (D'85) which contained a two-page but very thorough article on "The Day After Doomsday" by Jeffrey Saltarella. To wit:
Hope this helps, Hoy!
I only read one, that I recall. It was a two-pager in which a rural couple were stuck in their house after some catastrophe. When they finally ventured out... their chickens were GIANT!
GIANT CHICKENS!
Which is pretty much how I've expected the world to end, ever since.
Thanks for the research, Phillip. I have that issue of Amazing Heroes and will dig it out to read that article.
Giant chickens aside, it doesn't look like this series was intended to tie in with the other post-disaster series, with not giant dalmatians, talking tigers and gorillas, or Roman demi-gods around.
These stories were among those that were supposed to be included in the Showcase Presents: Tales of the Great Disaster that was originally announced several years ago, but was never published. It's too bad that never showed up.
