Hey guys! I've kinda given up collecting comics - too expensive and too confusing. But I want to go out on something intriguing* and to me, Stargirl and Justice Society kinda look like it. Is it worth quitting after getting these two TPB's or is there something more to them requiring MORE purchases? Or is there something the Silver Age Fogey should be reading that he's missing? Thanks for the suggestions!

*Actually, I once promised myself that my last comic would be the Legion of Super-Heroes - but I haven't seen any new series of them for years now. So much for "Long Live the Legion" - Paul Levitz, I'm disappointed in you.

  •  "Something intriguing to go out on," eh?

For DC, I'm enjoying Supergirl and Superboy (Action Comics). You might also enjoy the recently-completed Batman & Robin: Year One by Mark Waid and Chris Samnee.

For Marvel, I've been singing the praises of Patrick McDonnell's The Super Hero's Journey for some time now, but as far as I know, no one else on this board has read it. That would be a great one to go out on AFAIAC, as would The Avengers in The Veracity Trap! by Chip Kidd and Michael Cho.

For Image I like Assorted Crisis Events, Capes and Skinbreaker, the latter two of which are written by Robert Kirkman. Skinbreaker has one issue left to go (of eight), as is soon to released in two "treasury editions," one in clor, one in b&w, spotlighting the luscious art of David Finch.

Did you ever try any of THESE?

    • Thanks! I'll check them out! (Mark Waid on Batman? Yes please!)

  • I can second the recommendation for Batman and Robin: Year One. It's a joy. Also, The Veracity Trap is great. And I've enjoyed the one issue of Assorted Crisis Events I've read.

But if you're looking for one last Legion story for the road, they're about to return in the new Superman annual that's coming out this summer, if you can wait that long.

    • ANOTHER new Legion? My god, did Superman or Spider-Man get THIS MANY reboots? That's part of why I'm quitting... they keep restarting the series!

    • That's the problem with being from the future... it keeps changing.

  • Something else just occurred to me. If you're a fan of Claremont/Byrne era X-Men, the first volume of John Byrne's Elsewhen (an alternate post-Phoenix Saga reality) is slated for release June 23. A link to online, uninked pencils for 32 issues available HERE.

    • Thank you.I followed that on the Byrne Robotics page and I have every intention of purchasing Elsewhen!
