This is for comics allegedly coming out in August:

1. I'm probably 1 of about 5 people who doesn't care that Angel is returning to Dark Horse.

2. I like the last Knight Errant mini to pick up the new one. The art looks a little better, not that the last one was bad by any stretch.

3. Dark Horse still has plenty of Star Wars on its plate though: 5 minis and an omnibus collection.

4. I think I just now realized that Conan: Road of Kings in an ongoing. It only took me 7 months, I'm not that bright.

5. None of the Jim Shooter Gold Key revivals solicited this month.

6. Dark Horse Presents with a Jim Steranko comic and interview. Yeah boy!

7. Please DC give us fewer details on Batman 80 Page Giant. Its 80 pages and Dustin Nguyen is doing the cover. that is all we get.

8. News of the relaunch really makes me think on what I'm going to order. IE. Fabian Nicizea's run on Red Robin is ending before it even really gets started.

9. I guess Superboy gets shipped twice this month to wrap up Jeff Lemire's run. Too bad I was enjoying it.

10. It really does give me a new perspective on all of the storylines concluding.

11. And no notification at all on the series that are going to be outright cancelled.

12. The Marhsall Rogers Dark Knight HC looks good, if a bit pricey.

13. And the Night Force gives you the entire series at about $2.85 an issue. Not a bad deal.

14. Looks like Rob Liefeld scaled back his gross anatomy just a tad on The Infinite.

15. Uhm, I'm supposed to expect he will get that and Hawk & Dove out on time? I ain't holding my breath.

16. Good lord! Invincible Compendium vol.1 for $64.00!? That is the first 47 issues though at $1.48 a pop.

17. I turn around an Elephantmen is up to issue 34. Congrats to Richard Starking and crew!

18. Out of all of the cover for Ultimate Hawkeye I like the Kaare Andrews non-variant myself.

19. Seems like a good time to bail on Amazing Spider-Man. It is leading into some massive huge event I have no interest in. Plus, I haven't enjoyed my $3.99 comic in about 2 months (6 issues?)

20. Will Secret Avengers be on time with Warren Ellis at the helm?

21. Greg Rucka on Punisher? Okay I'm in.

22. Blue Water update: Lucille Ball, Conan O'Brien, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Steve Jobs, and Prince Harry. Their output constantly amazes me,

23. "Eagerly awaited new hit series" seems a bit presumptuous on two counts.

24. How man people are/were really clamoring for a Bionic Man comic?

25. Hey a new issue of Optic Nerve!

26. I wonder if the Gon comic being published by Kodansha  is the same material DC printed all those years ago. I am going to assume so until I hear otherwise. Really good comics if you haven't read them though.

27. A lot of neat costumes here.

28. Anyone want the $2900.00 Lady Death bronze statue?

29. Weird for me to see the Lipovitan energy drink in here.

30. Those Misfits and Punisher headphones sure are enticing. Not enough to actually buy them though.

31. Wow and DVDs being offered for movies that haven't even hit the theaters yet.

  • I wouldn't say that I'm clamoring for Bionic Man but I am looking forward to it despite not having enjoyed Dynamite's Green Hornet efforts.
  • Last month I did something new: I live-tweeted my filling out of my monthly Diamond order form. If I do it again this month, I'll chime in and let y'all know!

  • I think a $2,900 bronze Lady Death statue would be the nerdiest and most expensive murder weapon ever.
  • Last month DC solicited “DC Retroactive” comics of the ‘60s and ‘70s, this month it’s the ‘80s and ‘90s. Although I’m less interested in the ones of the ‘80s and ‘90s, because I’ll soon be dropping DC’s entire line, I’ll probably splurge. Isn’t DC the company which is “Holding the line at $2.99”? because all these are $4.99. Just saying…

The Marhsall Rogers Dark Knight HC looks good, if a bit pricey.

This book includes everything* Batman by Marshal Rogers: the original run of Detective Comics with Steve Englehart, the illustrated text piece from DC Special Series #15 (which I own only in The Greatest Batman Stories Ever Told), Secret Origins, BM:LotDK, and the Dark Detective mini-series.

*Almost everything, now that I think about it. It doesn’t include the newspaper comic strip he did in the wake of the first theatrical film. That would be cool, but maybe DC will get around to releasing that along with the “Cinfa” strips as well.

And the Night Force gives you the entire series at about $2.85 an issue. Not a bad deal.

I’m seriously considering this one. If I buy it, I’ll have the recent DCCP collection to trade.

The Complete Little Orphan Annie, Vol. 7: – Hooray!

Looks like Rob Liefeld scaled back his gross anatomy just a tad on The Infinite.

This one’s a win-win. It’s written by Robert Kirkman, so that’s a plus. And if the story doesn’t measure up, there’s always Liefeld art to ridicule! (I suspect that Kirkman is going to write the kind of story to suit Liefeld’s style.)

The MAD Fold-In Collection: 1964-2010 slip-cased HC: This one I’m going to take my chances of finding on the HPB clearance table at a fraction of its original cost in two years. That’s what I did with similar collection of Don Martin, The Far Side, Peanuts, Calvin & Hobbes, etc.

Johnny Hazard: the Newspaper Dailies, Vol. 1: 1944-1946: Hooray!

The Phantom: The Complete Series: The Gold Key Years, Vol. 1: Hooray!

I meant to comment on this point, too. I have all of the DC material so I'll be interested in it only if it's new.

I'll echo Travis, though: good stuff if you haven't read it.

    I smell a mini-series in there somewhere.

These interested me as well, but each issue contains a reprint comic. Since there is a greater than zero chance I already have the comic being reprinted I would be hacked off to be paying $5 bucks for a new comic. Of course DC doesn't tell us which issue is being reprinted, so...

Dags, how did you handle these Retroactive comics?

  • I didn’t really start collecting DC comics in earnest until Crisis on Infinite Earths (or the year or so leading up to it), so chances are I won’t have the reprints in the ‘60s and ‘70s Retroactives. I’m less thrilled about the reprints in the‘80s and ‘90s ones because I will undoubtedly own originals of all of those.
