For comics coming out in April. I am really surprised I beat Jeff to it.

1. Attention Walking Dead fans, a special issue fro FCBD. They claim will never be reprinted.

2. Looks like more companies participating in FCBD than ever before. That is awesome.

3. When I see something like, "From the creators of Uncharted!" I wonder what I missed.

4. Did anyone else read Bloodhound when it first came out from DC?

5. I am super-psyched to see X return. I liked some of the creative ways they got the second part of the "X" on some of the victims during the original series.

6. I see that Orion is back in Wonder Woman, I hope that she rips him a new one.

7. 11 issues in and they are still getting the band together in Earth 2 I am glad I bailed on that one.

8. Pretty light on the info this month DC.

9. When did Jim Starlin start writing Stormwatch?

10. Interesting to see the In the Days of the Mob magazine reprint by Kirby. I will be getting it.

11. Pretty neat to see Barry Kitson on a Vertigo book, even if it is just for one month. Fairest for you keeping score at home.

12. Guilty Pleasure of the Month: Kiss Solos #2: Starchild

13. Against my better judgment I am going to give Jupiters Legacy a shot. Millar writing and Quitely on art I can't imagine it will run on time.

14. Remind me to buy Miniature Jesus when it comes out in trade.

15. I am glad to see Jason Aaron writing the Thanos Rising series, just that it is someone besides someone from the inner circle who usually writes this stuff for Marvel.

16. Every month I feel more out of touch with Marvel.

17. I am going to try a couple of the NOW series in trade though. Maybe I can reconnect,

18. It amuses me that the original Longshot series is called X-Men: Longshot for the trade now.

19. Major kudos to Gold Digger for getting to issue 200.

20. Years after it ended we are finally getting a 100 Bullets t-shirt, and I am buying it.

  • Trav, I read Bloodhound, and loved it. I'm thrilled to see more of it coming from Dark Horse -- most likely as a 3-parter in DHP, followed by a miniseries. It's pretty much my most anticipated title for 2013. And, you and he share a name!

As for Earth 2, I tend to be pretty thrilled with the issues that focus on the core group: Jay, Alan, Kendra, Al, and now Khalid. But it's had too many diversions -- issues 0, 7, and 8, have all been momentum-killers (even when well done in their own right), and even 1 didn't feature the main crew. For a book that's had 10 issues, only 60% have given us progress. It's frustrating, and I'm hoping for better in the future.

I think Starlin is starting on Stormwatch with this issue. An interesting match, I think.

  • I’ve been pretty busy lately and my board time has been limited (I didn’t even fill out my April Previews order until yesterday), but I’ve got some news for you, Trav… neither one of us posted a “Thoughts While Filling Out Previews #292”! Here, then, are some thoughts on the two most recent catalogs.

    #292:

JOHN BYRNE FANTASTIC FOUR ARTIST EDITION: I wish they’d list the exact content (not that I can afford them, anyway). I’m sure whichever issues they choose (or are available) will be worth a look.

YOUR DREAMS: A collection of an odd-ball Simon & Kirby comic from the ‘50s. Is there anything worthwhile from this team (or Kirby solo) that hasn’t been reprinted? (SPOILER ALERT: See #293.)

BUCK ROGERS BY GRAY MORROW: This is a collection of the strip based on the TV show. Never watched it, but the artwork makes this one worth having.

    #293:

IN THE DAYS OF THE MOB: With the companion volume (SPIRIT WORLD) already released, I know it was just a matter of time. Now if some publisher would release a recolored, single-edition collection of CAPTAIN VICTORY!

DITKO’S KONGA: The companion volume to DITKO’S GORGO (which hasn’t shipped yet).

MICKEY MOUSE COLOR SUNDAYS: The b&w dailies have been a hit.

BILL EVERETT ARCHIVES VOL. 2: I don’t usually mention second volumes in these “thoughts,” but I enjoyed the first very much, but it left off just as his style was getting really distinctive.

GEORGE WUNDER’S TERRY & THE PIRATES: I just recently finished reading the complete run of Miton Caniff’s “Terry and the Pirates” and wished I had more (Terry) to read. This is the solicitation I am the most excited about. (Of course it’s published by Hermes Press, so we might have it next year at this time.)

DOCTOR WHO COLLECTIONS FROM TITAN BOOKS. “Nemesis of the Daleks” is the second volume collecting Seventh Doctor stories. I’m missing one (of three) Tenth Doctor volumes and two (of two) Eleventh Doctor volumes, but I have all of Doctors Five through Eight. (There were none for Nine that I know of.) I prefer the black & white editions (which this is) to the color ones, so I’ll probably get it, but I haven’t decided yet.

STAR TREK: JOHN BYRNE COLLECTION: I recently re-read all of JB’s Star Trek work for IDW. It’s good stuff, but I don’t think I need to own it in HC. If you like ST and JB, though, and haven’t read these, I can recommend it.

DARK SHADOWS: YEAR ONE: I’m curious about this one. How will it differ from TV’s “1795” storyline?

  • but I’ve got some news for you, Trav… neither one of us posted a “Thoughts While Filling Out Previews #292”!

Yeah, I know I had my notes, but I wasn't home for a long while. Then I through them away while I was cleaning, and just said, "Forget it".

BUCK ROGERS BY GRAY MORROW: This is a collection of the strip based on the TV show. Never watched it, but the artwork makes this one worth having.

Whoa! You never saw the TV show? That is rather surprising to me. Of course I knew nothing for years except the TV show. I never knew it existed in any other media.

  • I've got an old collection of Morrow Buck Rogers stories, Jeff, I you want to discuss it.

  • Let's see... it's solicited for release April 17.

  • I haven't forgotten, Luke! It's been resolicited for August 28.
