Thoughts for comics and stuff that will be coming out in January...
- You get an art book for 20 Years of Hellboy
- Whoa, Elfquest is back. I think the Pini's are finally planning to wrap this up.
- I guess Captain Midnight did well enough for Dark Horse to put out a Skyman book.
- Never Ending is only 3 issues?
- Happy to see a new written and drawn series by Dave Lapham
- I love that cover to Aquaman #27
- Oh look Detective Comics is going to include yet another retelling of Batman's origin. For that reason alone I won't be getting it.
- Showcase: Men of War definitely interests me.
- I am confused as whether Federal Bureau of Physics is a regular series or a mini series.
- Another Avengers book!?
- Nice to see Black Widow is getting her own series, I just wonder if she can carry one.
- I might be the only person on Earth who doesn't give a flip about Miracle Man.
- George Romero is writing a comic, eh?
- Marvel UK heroes are making a comeback! Man it is the 90s again.
- I am getting the Curse mini simply because Riley Rossmo is on art.
- Archaia is part of Boom now? Or have they always been, but is now in their listings?
- I am really tempted to buy the Pre-Code Zorro collection.
What piqued your interest?

Until I read your post I didn't know there were Zorro comics stories before Alex Toth's. They were likewise Dell comics, so the pre-Code ones may have still been kid-friendly. In fact, Dell never adopted the Code. Toth's were the first ones connected to the Disney TV show.
And yet, Unwritten is heading toawrds it's 60th issue. :-P
STILL no Aliens/Predator/AvP?! argh.....
Detective Comics #27, I'm going to presume?
First, some old business…
PREVIEWS #301:
BATMAN ’66 TV STORIES TPB: Comic books stories from the ‘50s and ‘60s which were adapted into TV episodes; a companion to the new Batman ’66 spin-off comic book series.
PS ARTBOOKS is on the move with more (relatively) obscure reprints from the ‘50s: Harvey Thrillers, The Thing! And Dick Briefer’s Frankenstein. Regarding the latter series, volumes one and two (reprinting the straight horror stories) have been taken off the schedule until missing issues can be located. Volume three has already been released, and the plan is now is to release volumes 4-8 (the humor issues) first.
COMIC STRIPS: Lots of good strip collections coming, too, including Superman Golden Age Sundays (picking up where KSP left off years ago), a third volume of Johnny Hazard, a fourth volume of Captain Easy, and Rusty Riley (a strip I’ve heard much about but have read little of), plus…
LOAC: ALLEY OOP: This is the fourth volume in a series I really like. (Previous volumes have featured Baron Bean, Polly and Her Pals and The Gumps.) If you’ve never seen them, these volumes are short and long (approximately 4” tall by 12” wide), each reprinting 365 days’ worth of continuity, one strip per page. This one begins with the story which introduces time-travel into the prehistoric humor/adventure strip. Unfortunately, my retailer informs me that nothing in so unusual a format sells well on the open marketplace. (I’ve pre-ordered mine, but my LCS won’t order any for the shelf.) If this sort of thing appeals to you as much as it does to me, I urge you to speak up!
SUCKER BAIT: This is another of Fantagraphics’ excellent EC reprints, but I don’t recall off the top of my head which artist is being spotlighted. It doesn’t really matter; they’re all great. I’ve heard, too, that all of Fantagraphics’ 2014 releases will be preceded by a “kickstarter program” before going to press. More details here:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/fantagraphicsbooks/fantagraphic...
SPIDER-MAN OMNIBUS: Reprints 1980s stories written by Roger Stern. I’m as excited about this anything else above. I may even start a discussion thread to explain why.
Okay, now on to…
PREVIEWS #302:
GASOLINE ALLEY SUNDAYS: Hands down the solicitation that has me the most excited!
ARCHIVE EDITIONS: Archie Archives 9, Man of Tomorrow 3 (originally solicited for July 2013) and a volume of Doug Moench/Kelly Jones Batman stories all bear mentioning.
STRIP COLLECTIONS: Batman from the ‘60s and a fourth volume of Steve Canyon.
ATRIST’S EDITIONS: Basil Wolverton. Wow. Just… wow.

Oh yeah, I'm not expecting see blood painted on the walls. He is a character I have an interest in and the reprint of the Toth work just whet my appetite.

That and the Wally Wood one are 1 and 1A on the two I would want.
STAR TREK ANNUAL 2013 — “Strange New Worlds”: Oh, I was also going to say that the Star Trek photo-novel thingy by John Byrne (from #301), a sequel to “Where No Man Has Gone Before”, looks interesting.
