There was no explanation. It was a done-in-one story, before the continuity police required an accounting of where every other hero and superteam was to explain why the hero in the actual title you are reading had to handle this alone.

I'm imagining some poor superhero in a dark room being interrogated by the Continuity Police. They're demanding to know where the hero was between 5 and 9 pm on the evening of May 5, 1975, and if they were battling Captain A-Hole in New York, how they could possibly then have assisted in a team-up issue on the same date and time in LA, helping the Blue Avenger against the invading Strontium Men.

  • That Daredevil story is on my list of top 10 Marvel stories - a VERY tough list to make. Other such matchups try to emphasize how the weaker hero stands a chance and can even compete against the stronger antagonist. Not this one! DD never gives up, but we see that Namor has Daredevil simply outclassed. Add some Wally Wood art to that and you have a winner!

    • The pedant in me insists on noting that the Thor cover is an homage to Thor #126 in 1966 by Jack Kirby.

    • And perhaps also to Thor #338's cover by Walt Simonson in 1983.

Not exactly.  But on page 14 of the thread, we had the following.
