The Monkees:  COAST TO COAST

This is my own custom-made version of MORE OF THE MONKEES.  It starts out with the TV version of the theme song, then goes into 14 songs (the then-UK standard), all by Tommy Boyce & Bobby Hart, or Mike Nesmith, that COULD have/SHOULD have been the 2nd album.  This is followed by 3 B&H songs I decided to reject and include as bonus tracks, and finally, by 10 songs produced by Don Kirchner's people in NYC.

This is a follow-up to The Monkees:  SUMMER OF '66, on which I compiled 22 tracks (including the entire 1st album), mostly in the order they were recorded, intended for the 1st album.  (9 of those were produced by Mike Nesmith!)

You know, after these 2, HEADQUARTERS comes across as a major disappointment, by comparison.  But not for long.  I intend to do my own "special edition" of that, which will include all the songs recoreded in between the 2nd & 3rd albums, during that gray period just before and after Don Kirchner got himself fired off the project.  There was some damn good stuff in there, including "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You", "99 Pounds", "She Hangs Out", and "The Girl I Knew Somewhere".

You wonder how the HELL so many great songs didn't get on any of their regular albums originally!

"Good Feeling" by the Violent Femmes

..." Let me Get Close To You " , Skeeter Davis .

...Alex Chilton , doing the same Goffin-King song .

Hey , Henry , do yoou think the Monkees - mebbe with Davy ??? coulda done this ???
