My Favorite Martian: The Complete Series, Volume One, Hermes Press, $49.99

I applaud Hermes Press for reprinting all the Gold Key books that Dark Horse and Dynamite Entertainment don't have the rights to, which is pretty much all the TV-to-comics st

Review: 'DC Universe: Secret Origins'

DC Universe: Secret Origins hardcover ($39.99)

I try not to duplicate too much material in my collection, but for some reason I can't resist "Secret Origins" collections, even when I already own all the stories in one form or another. Such is the c

Review: 'Showcase: Ghosts Vol. 1'

Showcase Presents: Ghosts Vol. 1 (DC Comics, $19.99)

When Ghosts debuted in 1971, I was buying DCs fairly comprehensively – but I gave the title a pass. With this Showcase, I remember why.

Ghosts certainly put its best foot forward, with the bulk

Action! Mystery! Thrills! Comic Book Covers of the Golden Age 1933-1945 by Greg Sadkowsky, Fantagraphics, $29.99.

Review: 'Archie Archives Volume Four'

Archie Archives Volume Four (Dark Horse, $49.99)

In my last review of Dark Horse's ambitious Archie Archives, I confidently called the WWII period the "Harry Sahle era," as he was the primary artist on volumes 2-3, which collected stories printed f

Tarzan: The Jesse Marsh Years Volume Ten (Dark Horse Archives, $49.99)

While I've been busy puzzling on this site over the last nine volumes why artist Jesse Marsh is so widely admired -- I find his work adequate, but not much more -- I've mostly f

Review: 'Baltimore: Or, the Steadfast Tin Soldier and the Vampire'

Baltimore: Or, the Steadfast Tin Soldier and the Vampire (by Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden, Bantam, $25)

There are many details wrong with this book -- but it's so good overall, so Mignola overall, I don't care.

That's my lead, and I'll get

Once again, I need to say a few words about a few books to get them off my desk and onto the bookshelf. Others may have already reviewed these, and if so I hope links will be provided. Either way, I'm as interested as ever in what you guys think.

DC’s “The New 52” took over my newspaper column for a month, so I’ve fallen behind on reviewing other books, which have stacked up into teetering towers all around my desk. To make some mention of them while they’re still relevant, I’m going to do so
