A Cover a Day

Ok, how about this for an idea.  We take it in turns to post a favourite (British spelling) comic cover every day.  This went really well on the comic fan website that I used to frequent.  What we tried to do was find a theme or subject and follow that, until we all got bored with that theme.  I'd like to propose a theme of letters of the alphabet. So, for the remainder of October (only 5 days) and all of November, we post comic cover pictures associated with the letter "A".  Then in December, we post covers pertaining to the letter "B".  The association to the letter can be as tenuous as you want it to be. For example I could post a cover from "Adventure Comics" or "Amazing Spider Man".  However Spider Man covers can also be posted when we're on the letter "S".  Adventure Comic covers could also be posted when we're on the letter "L" if they depict the Legion of Super Heroes.  So, no real hard, fast rules - in fact the cleverer the interpretation of the letter, the better, as far as I'm concerned.

And it's not written in stone that we have to post a cover every day. There may be some days when no cover gets posted. There's nothing wrong with this, it just demonstrates that we all have lives to lead.

If everyone's in agreement I'd like to kick this off with one of my favourite Action Comic covers, from January 1967. Curt Swan really excelled himself here.

Discussion and voting on future monthly themes takes place on the "Nominations, Themes and Statistics for A Cover A Day" thread.  Click here to view the thread.

  • Hard to believe we're almost to the end of another month. Yet humans aren't the only beings with super powers. (Image courtesy of the Grand Comics Database.)

  • Lois Lane #98. Another Curt Swan cover. I started off by thinking that this month would prove very difficult to find appropriate covers but I'm very pleased to report that it has been the absolute opposite!

  • Captain America #15 and Pep #15. Unknown stories of WWII to finish the month.

  • Richard Willis has already posted Superman #15 for "Month 15," but I am reposting it as a transition from March to April.

  • I'm going to transition.

13529011876?profile=RESIZE_400xThis series ran 20 issues but there was an eight year gap between the first 10 and the second 10 so I'm going with it as two short run series.  "The Human Rubberband."

  • Here's my transition cover. The first run of the Hulk went six issues... I'd call that a short run!

  • The last day of March. The end of the Super Powers theme and the onset of the Short Lived Series. After guest starring in Shazam, the original Captain Marvel, FIlmation's The Mighty Isis had her own DC title for 8 issues. The character would come back in modern day Justice Society tales as Black Adam's girlfriend and later wife while a modified version of the Isis Medalion was part of the last couple of seasons of the CW's Legends of Tomorrow. • Mention of super power weapon: "these here lollipops".

    Short-lived series: Dark Horse's 1992 Herbie comic was a 2-issue limited series.
