I didn't entirely get the intended construction of the jokes in the Sunday Bizzaro (Sp??) strip yesterday . ( The strip appars to be not online , as it is a King Features Syndicate strip , who - Gasp !!! - appear to think they're in the comics business to make money , and keep their strips behind a wall . )
The joke was " variations on ' I Love New York ' "...but was the panhandler's shirt supposed to be saying " I Owe New York " ?" I Have Zero , New York " ?
The yokel , in Middle Ages garb...Was his shirt suppost'a mean " I Love York " , as in the English county that New York was indeed named after ??? ( And Prince Charles is now considered the Duke of , if I recall correctly . )

Me neither. Not just Bizarro, but some other similar sites sometimes post cartoons only they understand.
My guess is thaat Mr. Potatohead is mad at Ronald for the numerous numbers of his people that the clown has sliced up, fried, and fed to the general public over the years, and therein lies the "humor". As for the slice of blueberry pie? Ya got me. I seem to recall that Piraro would put little odd references in his comics that would only be meaningful to the people that they were directed at.
Piraro and Wayno have a collection of odd images that they include in their panels. Sometimes just a couple and sometimes all of them:
The pie, the spaceship, the pipe, the eyeball, the crown, the dynamite.
"Numerous numbers" You semi-literate buffoon!

I guess. I just thought it was supposed to be something funnier than that, like maybe there was a pun I was missing or something. I mean, McDonalds is best known for selling hamburgers. ("Billions and Billions Served" doesn't refer to French fries.) Why not a cow? And why Mr. Potato Head, specifically? I was obviously over-thinking it.
