I know we have a thread about problems on the board, but I can't find it, so I'm going with my own discussion.
About an hour ago, I pulled up one of my older columns to reference, in order to answer a question on another site. To my horror---and accompanied by every swear word I learnt in twenty-seven years in the Navy---I discovered that the art in every column I posted from 08 July 2023 and before was gone, replaced by labels like this:
Now, I still have the art for each of those columns. Re-installing it won't be difficult, but it will be time consuming. But before I spend all that time in tedious effort, can anybody tell me what happened? And, more important, is there a way of bringing all the art back more easily? I thought I'd wait a couple of days to see if it comes back on its own, but I suspect it won't.
Any advice would be much appreciated, gang.

I don't know the answer, but I've noticed that older images have been vanishing for the past week or so myself, for example, the "Captain Comics" logo at the top as the page as well as the entire first page of posts to the "Cover a Day" thread.
Aye, the Captain Comics logo has gone the way of my column art, for me, as well.
Hi Commander, my best guess as to your missing art, is that it happened when we migrated to Ning 3.0. That happened right around the same date as the art begins missing. I don't know of a way for it to bring it back. May not hurt to wait to see if it magically re-appears.
As to the logo...I have no idea. If I had a copy of it saved I could just re-upload it. Hopefully Cap does. Or maybe it will come back on its own.
Sorry, I couldn't give you better answers than that.
Hi Commander, my best guess as to your missing art, is that it happened when we migrated to Ning 3.0.
Thanks, Travis, but it wasn't that. All of my column art made it through the migration just fine. The art dropped out in the past day or so. (I go through my old columns frequently, usually for reference.)
I've had similar problems with my column art in the past (not for a while, though), but it was limited to two or three entries and a relatively easy fix.
Gotcha...so it is completely new. I poked around the Ning supports forums, and didn't see anyone else saying anything similar. Of course it isn't very active.
Cap, may have to reach out to their support team directly.
Well, as I suspected, the situation hasn't corrected itself. So, to-day I've started the tedious process of restoring the art to my columns.
It could be much worse. Fortunately, every time I prepared a column for posting, I made a list of the art I used, in order, including the pixel size. And the indicia that shows where the art used to be is in the position where I originally placed the art. Thus, it's simply a matter of locating the right file, then re-inserting the art in the order I listed it. Simple, but time-consuming. Each column takes about twenty-to-thirty minutes to restore the art. (Oh, why did I have to be so prolific?)
Aye, I know most of those columns will never be read by anyone, again. But I'm too much of a perfectionist to let it lie. The Good Mrs. Benson even said, "I'd tell you to just forget about it, but I know you better." Besides, two or three of those columns I'm pretty damn proud of. (In other words, I can't believe it was me who wrote them.)
There's probably some information on line about this sort of thing, but I don't know the terminology and haven't the foggiest notion how to look it up, Thanks to everyone who chimed in, though.
At least now I have something to occupy my retirement days, heh.
Do we have a time frame for the missing art? Like "before 2020" or something? When I complain to Ning that's the first questino they're going to ask.
Thanks for looking into this, Cap.
The art is intact on my columns from 04 September 2023 to the present.
The art is gone from the column just before that, dated 08 July 2023, and from all of the others previous, going back to 06 August 2013.
Much obliged, sir.
Independently, I looked at the "Comics Comic Cuts" thread and found a clean break between December 31, 2020 (gone) and January 1, 2021 (still there). This also explains the older mastheads, etc, being gone. The difference between this and the Cover a Day thread may be that many of the posts on Cover a Day are actually links to other websites. It seems to affect free-standing images. Cap is going to Ning with the question.
I took a quick look over at the "Cover a Day" thread and the break seems to be between page 2144 (July 13, 2023) and 2145 (July 13, 2023). There are some covers on 2144 and earlier but many are missing. Without looking too much the art seems to be there from 2145 onward.
