As a budding writer/editor, I will be attending my first convention this weekend as a GUEST and not as a fan.

The inaugural Pulp Ark gathering in Batesville, Arkansas is both a summit for new/current pulp creators and a traditional convention for everyone.

So with your kind indulgence, I would like to blog about it here at the Captain Comics website as time permits, hence starting this thread in the General NON-Comics section.

And if you're in the area, feel free to stop by and say hi.

  • Good Luck and Have Fun, Lee!
  • Good luck!!!!
  • Congratulations, Lee. I'm not sure if you know this, but ANYONE can write a blog in our blog section, so feel free to do write it there. I bet you're super excited.

Can you tell us more about your writings and what you have edited?

  • Good stuff! I hope you have a blast.
  • I am the creator/writer of HUGH MONN, PRIVATE DETECTIVE that has appeared within Pro Se Productions' Masked Gun Mystery, the creator/writer of WYLDE WORLD, that has appeared in Peculiar Adventures, I edited the second and third issues of Fantasy and Fear before the company (wisely) decided to concentrate strictly upon the book market, and have had a few additional short stories published throughout the other issues of the above.

So we're talking about 7 short stories published between 8 issues, not counting all the ones I edited.

By the end of 2012, there will be both a HUGH and a WYLDE collection, as well as an original super-hero novel that I am about halfway finished writing right now that for obvious reasons I don't want to spill any beans about at the moment.

The magazines are all available through Lulu and the books, as they're released, will be available through AMAZON!

But now if you kind folks will excuse me, I have to catch a nap because I have to be up around 3 AM to be at the airport by 5 for a 7AM flight!

  • Sounds like fun.  Good on you Lee!  Looking forward to your impressions on what its like on the other side of the fence.
  • Photobucket
  • I hope you do well at the convention, Lee (and that the convention does well for you). If you ever attend a show in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, be sure to let us know here.
  • Congratulations! Hope all goes well for you.
  • Sorry I haven't gotten back to everyone sooner, but it was a busy day, despite the fact that Pulp Ark doesn't officially start until Noon Friday.

The only good thing about such an early morning flight was getting to see the sunrise.

Had a layover in Atlanta before flying into Memphis and picking up a rental car to drive to Batesville, Arkansas.

While the route I took was clear, there was evidence of flooding past and present along the way until sometime after crossing the state line into Arkansas.

Took less than five minutes to have my first Elvis sighting in Memphis, but don't bother alerting the press. It was just a woman wearing an Elvis T-shirt.

Besides what they were supposed to be, Atlanta and Memphis' airports also seemed like giant shopping malls to me. If you've flown to or through those destinations, you know what I mean.

Had an impromptu get together and met a few of the personnel behind the current pulp movement face to face for the first time, including: Tommy Hancock, Art Shippo, Ron Fortier, Ken Janssens, and Bobby Nash.

Right now I'm too tired to stay awake but too excited to get some sleep. But somehow I've got to, because it's going to be a busy weekend!

And an aside to Jeff and anyone else interested: I would love to visit Earth J and any other convention that would have me.

If anyone is interested in having a budding writer visit, just let me know and we'll see what can be worked out. My calendar is wide open after this weekend but I'll be honest with you. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm here as a guest, I couldn't afford to attend on my own finances.

More to come as time permits.
