Freezing rain started during the night and continues now. I wish it would change to sleet or snow. Friends have reported power outages, and ours blinked a few minutes ago, but we're still going right now. The dishwasher and clothes dryer are running, and we have soup in the slow cooker, so I hope we keep power.
I got a mixture of everything at my place. That ended is snow for a few hours.
I was actually supposed to start dog/housesitting for some friends, but their flight got cancelled this afternoon. Of course not until they drove to the airport, paid for parking, paid and checked their luggage, ate lunch at the airport when the flight got delayed. Then had to drive back once it was cancelled. They ended up leaving their luggage at the airport for now, as they were told it would be hours before they got it back.
I didn't start this discussion but I use it to keep track of the times I personally experience snow. Judging from my comments in February of 2022, it's been nearly two years. It was 15° when I went to bed last night, and 11° when I got up this morning. The cat wanted out at 2:30 AM but she didn't stay out long. (Normally I would have just let her out for the night, but this morning I stayed up waiting for her to come back, which explains why I was posting at 3 AM.) We had flurries off and on all night, and the ground (but not the grass) is covered this morning. Last week the high temperature got up to 71°. Trash pick-up and recycling were canelled for today (our day). I know many of you have it worse, but temperatures this low are quite unusual here. (If only our power grid holds up.) These colder temperatures are supposed to hang around for the next two days, then we are expecting a high of 44° on Wednesday, just in time for new comics to arrive.
We've only had a hint of snow so far this winter - not even enough to qualify as a dusting. We're supposed to get some this evening. It's 29, here, now the coldes stretch we've had all winter.
I got a decent amount of snow in my part of Dallas Monday morning. It had all pretty much melted by the afternoon and never got about 25. Roads were perfect when I drove into work this morning.
We were off Monday, but the snow closed my school and my wife's school system for today and tomorrow. More wintry weather is possible on Thursday. It was sunny all day today, but I'm not sure the temperature got above 15°F. It's now dark and 12°.
There hasn't been a measurable snowfall in this area in two years. Last night we got three to four inches, so I never ventured outside. As I work for a major university, we were told the main and satellite campuses were closed and to work remotely.
Thanks to COVID, there is no such thing as a "snow day" any more.
