Everyone has been speculating about which titles will be canceled after the first 8-to-12 issues of the New DCU. I'm not wondering which titles will be canceled--what happens will happen (as long as they don't touch OMAC).

But here's what I want to know: Assuming they're going to keep 52 ongoing titles, what new titles would you want to see to replace the ones that are inevitably canceled? Knowing that they took chances with titles like the aforementioned OMAC, I Vampire, Resurrection Man, Blackhawks, Our Army at War, Frankenstein, Demon Knights, etc., and that they seem committed to expanding the DCU and the slightly more obscure characters, which ones do you want to see?

Here are some titles I wouldn't mind seeing them try:

Books of Magic: Now that everyone from Vertigo from the DCU has been reincorporated, it would be cool to see a fresh take on Tim Hunter.

Kamandi: Wednesday Comics brought him into the present-day awareness. I would love to have them hand this book to a John Rozum or someone else with a crazy-idea imagination and let them run wild the way Jack Kirby did when he created the character.

Danger Trail: I'd love to see a spy book in the updated DCU--one that incorporates the technology and crazy quirks of this new world. If they could bring King Faraday out of his Cold War origins and into the present day global/super-hero scene, it could be pretty cool. Being a spy should be a different kind of thing in the DCU than it is in our world.

  • I like your idea about Danger Trail Jeff.

But whether or not they will be replacing an existing member of the 52, we're supposed to be getting Batman Beyond: Unlimited (main character with another Beyond universe back up story each issue) this Spring and a new Justice Society title set on Earth-2 before the end of the summer.

As for what else I would like to see, I wouldn't be surprised to see Cyborg get his own title at some point, and hope for DC to reestablish a Power Girl series regardless of whether or not Mister Terrific is actually taking place on Earth 2 also.

But what are the odds of Gail Simone restarting the Secret Six in the new DCU?

  • I'd been hoping for a Night Force book, but we've already got one. So...

Steel. It's well past time he had another ongoing.

Doctor Mid-Nite, Superheroic Specialist. It's like this to be a team-up book; Doc Mid-Nite is called in all over the world when superheroes have medical-related problems they have to solve. (Rather than him dealing with a bunch of medical related crime in his own hometown.)  He's House for superheroes.

Scare Tactics: Because the world should be big enough for a hard-traveling all-monster rock band.

Sandman Mystery Theatre: If the JSA comes back, I'd love for ore Wes & Dian adventures to anchor it.

I'd be interested in both of those titles.  I'd also like to see a Martian Manhunter solo title.

  • ...I will suggest a two-part 80 Page Giant/100 Page Super Spectacular micro-mini series dedicated to the DCU's humor/cartoon characters , including but not limited to the " super-hero spoofs " ones .

DC FUN PARADE ? ( dorky title )

    SG spoofs:

    The Inferior 5

    Captain Carrot

    Ambush Bug

Um , " that other 80s SH spoof that I tend to conflate with Ambush Bug " .

    REFNEW AND SUPER-HIP

    A now-middlish-aged Refnew is the manager/roadman for seemingly eternally young Super-Hip , playing the B-level - or C !!!!!!!!! - casiono and local fair circuit .

    THE DC TEENS

Some sort of re-working of Debbi , Scooter , Binky and maybe others as well - WITH STAN GOLDBERG ART !!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know much about Genius Jones or the non-Carrot , non-Sheldon Mayer ( whose characters may be legally/his regard at DC untouchable , anyway ) characters , perhaps the Henry Boltinoff characters , too ? Including Super Turtle , speaking of spoof SHs , but NOT just limited to him .

I am serious about this .

Two 80-pager issues might do better than 6 standard-sizers...

DC doesn't own The Barker ( from Quality ) and he was maybe more a non-costumed Spiit , not as much a " cartoon " character , anyway??

Though a few years back a backup miniseries in DETECTIVE COMICS featured a carnival barker - But not The Barker ? - or sorts...........

  • I have to admit I'm skeptical of a Steel series working, but I am extremely willing to be proven wrong on this front!

This pitch for Doctor Mid-Nite would be the first take on the character I would be interested in. I would like to see it titled Calling Doctor Mid-Nite, just for kicks.

I'd love to see Scare Tactics as a punk/horror book with some humor thrown in. Just as long as none of the creative team on the original title is in there, I'd give it a look.

And Sandman Mystery Theatre...I'd read that one in a heartbeat.

  • Steel has shown up in Action Comics and in a back-up story in Action. It was a different take on the character and it was just OK in my opinion.

I like what few appearances I've read of Dr. Mid-Nite. I really like Rob's pitch for a new series.

  • Are we talking about Steel the Indestructible Man or John Henry Irons?

The JHI Steel in Action Comics makes some sense.  He always seemed older than Superman in the pre DCnU comics, especially with his teenaged neice and nephew  on the scene, and it seemed a wee bit odd that he would model himself on someone younger.  The new guy is very young, at least, which isn't a bad change to the character.  I'd be happy to see a series of back-ups on him.

  • Calling Doctor Mid-Nite is a great title, Jeff!

Glad you guys like the idea!

Oh, and we're talking about John Henry Irons, Figs. (or at least I am!)

  • Has it been stated in the New DCU that Ted Kord is dead? One of the things I was most looking forward to with the hard reboot was that maybe he was still alive.

  • No word on any of the previous Blue Bettles Jeff, so Kord and Dan Garrett are both unaccounted for.

On another front, Ray Palmer and Ryan Choi have both been mentioned by other characters in passing since the September relaunch, but neither have been physically seen, and there has been no word or sign of an Atom.
