BOOM! Studios, under license by Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAS), a global play and entertainment company, today revealed a first look at POWER RANGERS UNLIMITED: THE DEATH RANGER #1, an exciting new one-shot special issue by fan favorite writer Paul Allor (Power Rangers: The Psycho Path), with art by rising star artists Katherine Lobo (Magic) and Kekovsky “Anna” Chandra (Power Rangers Unlimited: Countdown to Ruin #1), colors by Fabi Marques (Batman: The World), Sara Antonellini (Power Rangers), and Sharon Marino (Mighty Morphin, Power Rangers), and letters by Eisner Award-nominated Ed Dukeshire, presenting a brand new story about a mysterious and deadly Ranger whose unearthly secret might spell doom for everyone in the Morphin Grid ...

The LEGENDARY OMEGA RANGERS defended the universe from evil thousands of years ago, the six of them using their elemental powers to protect others from sinister forces. But that all changed when one key member became obsessed with death-defying powers from a terrifying source. How does this Ranger connect to what’s locked in the mysterious Omega Vault in Safehaven so many millennia later, as everything converges in the milestone comic book event CHARGE TO 100?

Currently, Power Rangers is celebrating 29 continuous years on the air, making it one of the longest-running kids’ live-action series in television history, with over 900 episodes aired to date. Created by Haim Saban and launched in 1993 with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the series launched its 29th overall season in Spring 2022, with season two of “Power Rangers Dino Fury,” which airs exclusively on Netflix in the U.S.

TRANSFORMERS: LAST BOT STANDING #4

TRANSFORMERS: SHATTERED GLASS II #1 (OF 5)

Story: Danny Lore | Art: Marcelo Matere | Covers: Marcelo Matere, Red Powell,  Nick Brokenshire | $3.99

By popular demand, the dark reflection of the Transformers universe returns!

Following the overwhelming success of 2021’s original Shattered Glass series, writer Danny Lore, artists Daniel Khanna and Guido Guidi, and colorist John-Paul Bove are back to tell more harrowing tales from this twisted alternate reality, with the new addition of artist Marcelo Matere rounding out the creative roster.

In a world where the virtuous icons you once knew are monstrously evil, Optimus Prime is a ruthless tyrant and Megatron is a compassionate peacekeeper. Cybertron sits on the brink of war as Autobots and Decepticons race to gain control of a Titan juggernaut whose raw power could decide the ultimate victor. However, while seemingly everyone is laser-focused on the Titan, the powerful shadow broker Ultra Magnus puts a sinister plan into action!

“When we ended the first series, I was overjoyed at the fan reaction to our version of Shattered Glass. It was a world full of passionate revolutionaries, terrifying warlords, and lots of big things going boom. The chance to revisit Shattered Glass, giving you even more of all that, really feels like coming home — a very explosive home with a lot of really tall folk, but home nonetheless!” says Lore.

“It’s great to return to the Shattered Glass universe where we continue to flesh out this whole new twisted mirror take on the normal Transformers universe. I think fans will really enjoy this latest chapter from this alternate reality,” says Khanna.

“Once again it’s great to be back on this series! In the first miniseries, I really loved depicting Blurr as a bad guy and Jetfire’s struggle for Starscream, playing with their facial expressions and their body language, yet keeping their basic traits from their original counterparts. But I can say that I’m having fun with any of the characters at this point. It’s a really refreshing challenge to draw them as their opposite, yet make them convincing and natural in their new roles, for both new readers and older fans,” says Guidi.

“What excites me more about the premise of Shattered Glass is the chance to play around with things you usually don’t do. For example, after reading the script, one line helped to guide my art style for this book: a description of the Wreckers in a gangster or mobster scenario, calling for lots of shadows and black silhouettes of the characters. It’s been great experimentation moving my art to this new level,” says Matere.

Editor Riley Farmer says, “It’s so exciting to be bringing even more Shattered Glass characters to life. We always want to give the fans what they want, and when we can give them an awesome comic book series and provide backstory for amazing toys through our partnership with Hasbro … well, what could be better?”

Story: Jim Zub | Art: Sean Izaakse | Covers: David Nakayama, Sean Izaakse & Chris O'Halloran, Paulo Siqueira & Rachelle Rosenberg, Stefano Caselli & Federico Blee, Todd Nauck | Teen | $4.99

Super-powered crooks have taken hostages in Staten Island? A dimensional rift tears open in Chinatown? Monsters running amok at the Met? Call in the THUNDER!

This May, New York City will have its own authorized team of super heroes in THUNDERBOLTS #1! Rising out of the destruction of DEVIL’S REIGN, this all-new lineup of Thunderbolts will star in a limited series by superstar creative team, writer Jim Zub and artist Sean Izaakse. Zub previously penned an action-packed run of the series in 2016 and now returns to tell the adventures of a new Hawkeye-led Thunderbolts that includes favorites like Spectrum, America Chavez, Power Man, and Persuasion plus the exciting debut of Gutsen Glory, an experienced cyber-soldier seeking new glory!

In the aftermath of Devil’s Reign, the Big Apple has big problems, and it’s up to a new group of Thunderbolts to turn things around. But when Clint Barton gets tasked with heading up this team and proving they can go toe-to-toe with anything the Marvel Universe can throw at them, the first opponent he’s going to have to face is himself.

“Writing Thunderbolts was my first in-universe work for Marvel and Sean Izaakse's first Marvel project as well, so getting to launch a new version of the team here with him on the team's 25th anniversary year is an absolute honor,” Zub said. “I am so pumped to put Clint Barton, Monica Rambeau, America Chavez and a host of others through trials and tribulations aplenty as New York's only official super hero team. A lot of the ideas being unleashed in this series are things I've been wanting to do for years. Big action and big fun, drama, comedy and, of course, a few twists befitting the team that always keeps readers on their toes. Sean's artwork has never looked better and he's bringing his incredible skills to bear on stunning comic pages and eye-catching designs for new characters we're adding to the mighty Marvel Universe. Our creative team is firing on all cylinders, so get ready for 'Justice, Like Lightning' to strike every single issue!”

“A lot of times people will look at a cast of characters and say, ‘This team lineup is different so this isn't the team I want,’ but, it's like you said, the Thunderbolts have gone through so many iterations. There have been incarnations where they're purely criminal, others where they're criminals trying to be heroes, and everything in between, but I've always felt like, at their heart, the Thunderbolts are a team struggling for redemption,” Zub said about the new roster in an interview with CBR. “Individual members and the team as a whole struggled to dig themselves out of their worst selves or resist the natural pull of who they've been in the past. So, for me, redemption is the heart of the Thunderbolts concept.”

  • So, I recognized Hawkeye, Photon, America Chavez, Power Man II and Purple Girl Persuasion. I had to look up the last guy, who has the punny name Gutsen Glory. He must be new.

FOREVER FORWARD #1 (OF 5)

Story: Zack Kaplan | Art: Arjuna Susini | Covers: Jacob Phillips, Jahnoy Lindsay, Stefano Simeone, Brad Simpson, Jim Campbell

A sci-fi adventure that imagines time traveling through “the future” as an Odyssey-style mythic journey home. When brilliant young scientist Dr. Lewis Moody accidentally launches himself, his secret longtime crush and three best friends 33 years into the future with his unproven quantum time machine, they find a mysterious message from their future selves: THE ONLY WAY BACK IS FORWARD. Now, as they jump again and again through strange future times, will they one day find the technology to time-travel back, or are they doomed to hopelessly travel forward … forever?

“I used to believe that our world was getting better each day, and some time in the future, we might live in a perfect resolution of our challenges. I don’t believe that anymore. Time seems to be a never-ending series of fleeting ups and heart-breaking downs, and the truth is that we don’t know what the future holds,” said Zack Kaplan. "FOREVER FORWARD is a epic sci-fi adventure with action and thrills that takes us into a cascade of future eras from a Russian invasion of America to fascist robots to post-apocalyptic steampunk wars, as times go from bad to worse, and ultimately remind us of the importance of cherishing the present and those we love.”

“As a science fiction enthusiast, I was thrilled to collaborate with Zack on Forever Forward, and I could not have been more fortunate than to have the chance to contribute to a story which, in addition to revisiting the concept of time travel in a creative and dynamic way, inserts engaging and innovative elements about the vision of human nature in both small manners (in its individual relationships, friendship, love, etc.) and in the large ways, as culture and society (how we evolve and involve in a chaotic and dynamic way). It’s very fun!” said Arjuna Susini.

Zack Kaplan added “I’m thrilled to partner with Scout Comics, who has been a rising force in comics and so passionate and supportive on this book. We have an all-star creative team with artist Arjuna Susini’s Moebius-level detail and fantastic world-building, colorist Brad Simpson’s sizzling and dynamic palette, Jim Campbell’s crisp and smooth letters and Tim Daniel’s beautiful design on the series. Not to mention, we have some fantastic covers coming, including Eisner-nominated Jacob Phillips, DC Round Robin winner Jahnoy Lindsay and new Last Days of Black Hammer artist Stefano Simeone. We’re all bringing a ton of passion to this series and we can’t wait to take you on this ride into the future.”

The Black Box was produced in 2011 and similarly remained hidden for over a decade. Fabrice Sapolsky had just finished co-writing a Spider-Man Noir mini-series for Marvel and Tom Lyle (Scarlet Spider, Robin) was looking to re-enter the comic book game after a five year hiatus. Unfortunately, Tom passed away in November 2019. Prior to his untimely passing, he and Fabrice made plans to bring The Black Box back with this original tale, plus new ones that they would co-write. • If you'll forgive a stupid question, are there no DC books out this week?

"As a cisgender male, I'm guessing this isn't aimed at me."

    I enjoy Bechdel's work a lot, myself.

  • I’ll be darned. Left DC off. Fixed.

  • "Have they ever explained how Picard and Seven became acquainted?"

Not yet (unless it was explained in season two of Picard which I have not seen). There's a couple of decades to cover between where ST:TNG/Voyager left off and Picard picked up. I'm sure they'll get around to it one of these days.

EDIT: I just read what I had to say about  The Last Best Hope but there's no mention of it there.

"OK, 1,000 issues seems like a lot."

    Don't even get me started.

"The game must be pretty popular."

Even SHAM! Comics did a "Fortnight" thing last week.

"I had to look up the last guy, who has the punny name Gutsen Glory."

Who names their kid "Gutsen"? then again, I just learned today that the guy who wrote the Swamp Thing movie novelization is named Houston Force Lumpkin III. (His pseudonym is David Houston.)

"The reveal on the last page [of Thunderbolts #1] is still one of the best in all the history of comics."

You know, it didn't make all that much of an impression on me. I didn't even find out until weeks later that it was supposed to have been some big "mystery."

"If that cover image looks familiar, then you’re as old as I am."

It's familiar to me and I'm not as old as you are! ;)

  • Over the years I have read a scattering of these strips in newspapers that post official notices. Dykes To Watch Out For is always amusing and has real people, who happen to be lesbians, and their gay and straight friends dealing with mundane annoyances, etc. I'm tempted to buy this.

    The Baron said:

"As a cisgender male, I'm guessing this isn't aimed at me."

    I enjoy Bechdel's work a lot, myself.

  • I really like Dykes to Watch Out For, too, though I haven't read it in years. You're right that it's not aimed at you, Cap, but that doesn't mean you won't enjoy it.

  • Who names their kid "Gutsen"?

I guess somebody whose last name is "Glory" and has a cruel streak.

It's familiar to me and I'm not as old as you are! ;)

Not yet. I plan to stop aging (checks watch) now.

You're right that it's not aimed at you, Cap, but that doesn't mean you won't enjoy it.

You're right, that sometimes happens. And the Legionnaires have spoken: This will likely be one of those times.
