  • That's seriously little time to wrap up a universe that had been going for 25 years.  No wonder we get POed when its all about Marketing and not stories.  They couldn't have given a bigger two fingers to the people who'd been buying into their storylines if they'd tried.

The good thing is that I now don't have to read those New Krypton comics, and James Robinson JLAs and those JMS abortions.  :-)

  • With All-Star Western, I figure the title is also there to accommodate the backups, which haven't had Hex at all yet. (That, and a little trademark protection of a long out-of-circulation title.) Although if the book gets on solid enough footing that they decide to do an issue or two without him to test the waters, I'd love for it to run as a companion to a new Jonah Hex title. If the market for them was strong enough that DC could publish TWO Western comics (one without Hex) I suspect they'd be as surprised as they would be pleased.

And I wonder what DC would have been planning after Flashpoint if they hadn't rebooted? Flashpoint was planned long before the reboot was hatched -- at Megacon this weekend DC said it was this time last year (also at Megacon) that they decided to relaunch the universe. Then they had to really scramble...

  • DC COMICS

    American Vampire #24, $2.99

    IMAGE COMICS

    Morning Glories #16, $2.99

    ONI PRESS

    Sixth Gun #19, $3.99

    All trade waits.

  • Ostrander's was a good nuts and bolts superhero tale that continued on from the prestige mini-series.

Eeven I have to admit that Johns Hawkman was pretty good.  The only problem with it was that witht eh modern storytelling style, there needed to be closure to the Hawkman/Hawkgirl romance.  What they did in the run up to Infinite Crisis was good, but then they drew it out and drew it out.

Morrison had the right idea to give them a big tragic send-off in Final Crisis, whatever about the execution, as their story had completely played out.  The pathetic floundering around they did with the characters after they negated their sacrifice vindicated Morrison's choice.  The 'real' deaths of the Hawkpeople in Final Crisis is yet another reason why it begs to be considered the real closing story of the the pre-Flashpoint DCU.

(Another is that the Silver Age Aquaman who popped up out of nowhere for those few panels in FC is exactly the character that Johns started over with in the DCnU.)

Johns' Hawman was a strong tale, well set up, but it's such a pity that DC didn't really know what they were doing for the few years in the run up to Flashpoint.  They didn't even know they were going to reboot everything for most of the few years between Final Crisis and Flashpoint!

Anyway, for me, Flash, #6, even though I haven't read #4& 5 yet.

  • The next arc of All Star Western features Nighthawk and Cinnamon though Hex is there, too. If ASW is always going to continue to star him, why not just title it Jonah Hex? To distance itself from the bad movie perhaps?

A savage Hawkman seems so unneccesary compared to the sophisticated Carter Hall and the science hero Katar Hol. Primal, yes. Hardcore, yes. But a barbarian approach feels wrong.

  • I'm confused -- why would All-Star Western have to survive without Hex?

    My purchases:

    All Star Western

    Aquaman

    Dark Horse Presents

    Flash

    I, Vampire

    Ray

    Superman

As for Hawkman, I think Johns got him pretty well, too. His version's really the only one I've liked since Tony Isabella's -- though I never gave Ostrander's much of a chance.

  • TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES ONGOING #7

  • ALL STAR WESTERN #6
    ALTER EGO #107 - Digital copy...eventually.
    FLASH #6

    I reckon that is it.

  • American Vampire 24

    Aquaman 6

    Avengers Academy 26

Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz 5- my daughter will be very happy, she's been waiting a while for this

    Fantastic Four 603

    Green Lantern New Guardians 6

    Star Wars Dark Times 4

    Wolverine and X-Men 6

    X-Men 25

    X-Men Legacy 262

  • Why can't anyone "get" Hawkman?

I thought Johns "got" Hawkman.  He did a really good job with his run.  He made good use of the reincarnation aspect, including the Past Lives one-shots.  He did a great job of building a complicated relationship between Hawkman and Hawkgirl.  Unfortunately, he handed the title off to someone else and it quickly devolved into mediocrity.
