  • I recommend these three movies:

Hannie Caulder (1971): She plays a woman who learns to handle a gun and goes after her husband's murderers. A solid western.

Fuzz (1972): She plays a cop in an ensemble cast that is going after a murderous extortionist (Yul Brenner!). A serio-comic version of an 87th Precinct story. One of my favorite movies.

Kansas City Bomber (1972): She plays a single mom supporting her daughter (a ten-year-old Jodie Foster) as a roller derby skater. A serious dramatic role.

Her IMDB biography (a ton of information):

  • The Three Musketeers (1973): Constance de Bonacieux

The Four Musketeers (1974): Constance de Bonacieux

  • Bandolero! (1968) is another good Western. She plays a Hispanic woman who's taken hostage by a gang that flees into a lawless area of Mexico. The sheriff leads a posse into Mexico after them. The other stars are James Stewart, Dean Martin and George Kennedy

"A serio-comic version of an 87th Precinct story"? Fuzz was a direct adaptation of the novel by the same name, actually written by the 87th Precinct scribe himself, Ed McBain (under his other name, Evan Hunter). I gave some thoughts on it over here.

  • I have seen some of Raquel Welch's movies, but I have to say I know her better from her numerous TV appearances, like this one:

    or this one:

  • This makes me very, very sad.

  • She was my first celebrity crush.

Me, too. It's weird, and I can't explain it, and I know this doesn't make any sense when I say it out loud, but ... Raquel Welch wasn't old enough to be dead.

    You know what I mean?

  • I wouldn't call her my first celebrity crush, per se, but she was probably the first celebrity I knew was supposed to be "sexy."

    A strange footnote:

Her death reportedly caused some minor disruptions in Kansas City, during the Super Bowl parade. People checking their devices (why do people have to do this every ten seconds?) saw Kansas City Bomber trending and briefly drew the wrong conclusions.
